It annoys me when people celebrate this deformity. The deformity means that these lions can never be returned to the wild and will forever live out their lives in captivity, as well as any offspring that are produced. In fact zoos throughout the UK prohibit breeding that would produce more albino lions for that very reason.

They didn't breed the cubs to be albino, the adult lions you see in the article are white lions who don't have albinism and many have been released into the wild and survived perfectly well. The cubs being albino and their parents being white lions is pretty much a coincidence.

The zoo will pair them up with other lions who probably don't have the gene which will probably result in their offspring being fine, albino animals are only bred for laboratory experiments and that is usually limited to rodents and fish. People are fascinated because albino lions are very rare.

Ah, I presumed they were specifically breeding albinos, my bad. Even the breeding of white lions is controversial, considering the claims that they have great difficulty in hunting in the wild due to problems with camouflage. Also I'm skeptical of the WLTs claims to have successfully re-introduced White lions into the wild.
