Help me decide! Disney or Australia?
so next year im planning on doing a working trip either at DisneyWorld or Australia.
At Disney- a job would be guaranteed once your on the programme, you get paid, put in accomodation (the only downside is its shared bedrooms for a whole year), free transport all around Disney. Its a great trip to earn money, perhaps make friends etc. I have been to Disney World many times and I would feel comfortable there.
Or, do I go to Australia for a year? I would only have 1 week of accomodation and then have to sort out a job and flats etc myself. Nothing is guranteed, but I think it would be easier to make friends with other travellers my age. Ive always wanted to go. But im terrified of spiders
earlier there was a small one in my room and it took me about 20 mins to try and build the confidence to hoover it, i just stood frozen staring lol.
I just cant decide!! Im weighing up the pros and cons and I still cant decide!
Advice?? -
Re: Help me decide! Disney or Australia?Australia...would be an amazing adventure. Yes Disney World would be a lot of fun no doubt, but Australia with no set plans would be a once in a lifetime experience.(Original post by pinkangelgirl)

Face your fears and use the 'Flight or Fight' psychology in regards to the spiders. There may also be spiders at Disney World, and I know there are lizzards in that area just all over. You could come back from Australia having overcome your spider fear and having had an amazing time.

I can't comment on Australia. But a few years ago I did a work placement year at Disney World and it was absolutely the best year of my life. Before I started there I was so nervous about the shared accommodation and things. But you can request to move in with someone you have made friends with after about 60 days. When I first started I lived with 2 Norwegians. A Canadian and a Mexican. I'm still really good friends and Skype regularly with the Mexican girl and the Norwegians! The Canadian girl went on to become my best friend and we requested to live in a smaller apartment just the 2 of us and it was jut the best time!! We Skype weekly also.
Aside from that the benefits are great. Free entry to Disney World, some great discount including like 50% off all merchandise around Christmas time, and free transport all around Disney property, to the Florida mall and Wal Mart. Not to mention you are close by universal studios and sea world if you like them.
Also Disney are quite generous when it comes to booking time off work. So I managed several day and weekend trips down the coat of Florida to the beaches. And also managed a long weekend in California, One in Chicago and one in New York mist quite cheap to fly domestically around the states
I absolutely loved my year there and would highly recommend it to anyone!!
Hope this helps a little. Any questions please ask x

Re: Help me decide! Disney or Australia?
Australia DEFINITELY! I did it last year and had the most amazing time. After that first week, you will have made friends and can probably sort the accomodation out together (and these friends can get rid of the spiders for you!) We got a 'Wicked' campervan and drove all round...or get on the greyhound bus which goes all sorts of places.
Think of all the places you can go, Sydney, Gold Coast, Melbourne etc all the beaches, nights out you'll have, different food etc
Disney would be fantastic yes, but in my opinion i think you should try something new, take a risk...

Re: Help me decide! Disney or Australia?
Not that I have any experience of either, but why not just do both? One first year, then the other the second year? You have a relatively long life in which you could fit these things in, no? Or are you worried about getting too much "out of the loop" for starting your career?

I think I am going to do both! The thing is I want to work in Australia for 1-2 years, then florida for a year and then I want to do an internship (which is the whole reason im doing all this in the first place lol because it would cost me £6000) over in New Zealand.
So thanks!! I think its going to be both- but Australia first! -

Re: Help me decide! Disney or Australia?I did Australia (there's a link to the FAQ in my signature) and had a fantastic time.
What sort of work would you do at Disney? I'm willing to bet that that sort of work could get rather old after a while. It's not going to be as fun as it was on a family holiday there when you were a child! -

I went to Disney World last year and even though I was 20 I still had a fabulous time- I dont think Disney World could ever get too old. I love theme parks too so Id never get bored of them.
But I think your right that it could get repetitive.
Im definitely going to Aussie now though- booking it when my loan comes through! Hopefully going to stay there 2 years
then do America after.
