    Applying with a HNC
    Hi,

I'm planning on applying to Dundee for Pre-Med 2013 but my qualifications aren't really the usual type.

I am currently going into sixth year and will be studying Higher Human Biology, Higher Geography, Higher Psychology and Int 2 Spanish but I'm also doing a HNC in Business online. I only did 2 highers in fifth year due to circumstances I couldn't change.

I'm also a spinning instructor so do have qualifications in exercise physiology, heart rate training, first aid etc aswell as having a high amount of extra curricular, volunteer work and work experience.

I will also be doing my UKCAT exam next week.

I had a look through the Dundee page but I can't find if they accept a HNC in Business or not?

Has anyone applied with a HNC before to Dundee or anywhere else for Medicine? or known anyone that has?

Does anyone know anyone that had roughly the same circumstances as me?

    Any advice?

    Thanks

I don't think anyone on here will able to answer your question with any certainty. You need to email Dundee and any other medical schools you want to apply to, and ask their advice.

Discuss it with the medical school but none of the Scottish schools really accept HNC's in anything unless it's a particular 'Pathway to medicine' type course.

Since the majority of Scottish medical schools like to see AAAAB in one sitting, would you not be better off doing 5 highers in 6th year? And if you took Higher Chemistry as well as Biology you would be able to apply for the standard 5 year course. I hope I'm not missing anything.

However, as was said above, you should phone/email the universities and ask what they think is your best option. Since you are just going into 6th year, there is still time to change your subject choices.

They might also wonder why you're doing a HNC in business rather than taking advanced highers in the subjects you did last year or spending extra time gaining experience. So in that sense it might be a negative rather than a positive.
