How long does the Argos training take?
    Hi,

Managed to get a job at argos. Have got my employee number, etc. now and the uniform ordered, etc. so am excited to get started and everything.

However, So far I've watched a lot of training DVDs and done the IBT tests on them, yet looking at the schedule.... I appear to be only 1/8th of the way through. Obviously i understand that there is a lot of stuff to learn, but if anyone could tell me how long their training took with Argos? As maybe it just looks like more when written down on paper yet there seems to be an awful lot!

Does anyone know if it is paid training as well? Didn't feel right asking that last time i was in!

Handed in the CV, a lot of argos's will be hiring around this time (you may be a bit late by now) as they release their new July catalogue later this month, and the releases of the catalogues are when their demand increases hugely!

I'm the customer service manager in an Argos store and yes the training is long! The initial induction period is 16 hours (2 days full time) which is where you watch about 7/8 DVDs and do the corresponding IBT courses.

The length of the remainder of the training will depend on which departments you are being trained on - there is a booklet called starter step that you should have been given or should be given soon with a "quick step" for each department which shows the training you need to complete for each department. Each quick step should take about a week to complete. If you have any more questions feel free to ask or speak to the duty manager in your store

    Hey

At the minute it's £6.04 but I think it's going up to £6.08 in October - Pay rates in central London are slightly higher though

What's the pay rate for 18 year olds? Also is it true that it is 1.5xpay on Sundays. Lastly, when do we get the payment is it weekly or monthly? Thanks

Our training took two full days. Then we were seperated into two groups. One on shop floor and the other in the stock room and we worked there for a shift to see how we got on. You'll be trained on all areas: Tills, Collection, Stock Room.

Basically if you're on a till, you're taking payments (obviously). If you're on collection, when the customers are waiting at the collection point you bring out the stuff which has been brought from the stock room. Those in the stock room pick the items, don't worry if you don't know where the item is. A little ticket is generated after the till person has served them and that has the item number and location of the item.

e.g. Kettle - Row 2 - A. That item will be on the second row on the shelf marked A. It's all clearly labeled so you know where all the rows and shelves are.

It's really easy once you get the hang of it. It can get very busy with loads of tickets generating per minute. You can only do one at a time though.

    Have fun.
