Hi today my UCAS track is showing I'm in clearing and have a clearing number. Can anyone explain what this means to me? I didnt think clearing was until exam results in August. Although I already have mine. Thanks

If you have your results then so do the universities

It sounds like you did not meet the offers

I guess hope for the best? which I do for you.

However, should you not be going uni this year. Get some voluntary or paid work-experience in the field your hoping to get into. Or travel or work as cabin crew for the academic year to travel and earn money one of my freinds did this and she said she didnt want to stop being cabin crew! she said it was addicting!

I had already been unsuccessful. Does this mean I can't apply again in clearing? Thanks

Ahhh thank you. Will I be able to apply again for the same course? Do I have to wait for results day, or can I do it now as I have a clearing number? Sorry, I'm a bit dumb on this clearing process. Thank you

You can if that course is in Clearing. Bear in mind that they have your results and have made their decision already though, so while it's not impossible you'd get in that way it's pretty unlikely.

In theory you can start using Clearing now but most unis won't know what courses are in Clearing yet so you might not get anywhere until results day.

I had the unsuccessfuls after interviews, not because of my results. My results were better than expected.

    Thank for the info

I'm same, just been rejected from my Extra choice. sucks!

Does anyone happen to know how we apply through clearing? I mean UCAS says "contact the universities"...as in ring them, email them? Sorry to sound like an idiot it's going to be MADNESS when the A level results come out! I'm going to be calling in sick from work and staying at home logged onto my computer

Ring them. The Clearing list will give you the admissions contact number. It's a chaotic time and you need to be quick off the mark.

In theory Clearing is already open, as you could ask a uni now if they have Clearing places on a particular course. In practice they probably won't know until results day, so essentially Clearing starts whenever you can get in touch with a uni about Clearing places.

You can't add a Clearing choice on Track until later in the day, to stop people rushing it too much or applying to places they haven't spoken to and slowing the process down as you can only apply to one at once.

Thanks, good luck with your application!

And yes, 8am on 16th August is what my UCAS info said.

I brought this upon myself because I changed courses! however I'd much rather know now than get halfway through my first year and go nah this isn't me..

Really? I did wonder because UCAS also says clearing is open from "mid July", I am very confused.. I think I'm going to call UCAS tomorrow and have a little chat.. I already have my clearing number.

The way I read it you're not meant to add a choice on clearing until the uni have told you they can accept you but you can call them and see if they would accept you... I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for all these admissions tutors because they are going to be getting lots of calls from me.

    Arg!

Yeah, that's how it works  They do get a lot of phonecalls but they get lots of extra staff to deal with them on and after results day.

I did exactly the same decided to change courses. If I'd have gone with my second choice I'm sure I'd have a place. O well, there is still hope for us.

There is definitely hope! There are some uni's I'd rather go to than others but basically if I get offered a place I will take it!

I was going to study nursing and now I'm applying for speech and language therapy, what about you?

    Best of luck
