What is your definition of unhealthy competition?

    Have you ever experienced it?

    Does it bother you?

    Is it necessary for success?

    1) see: When Boris Met Dave.

    To answer your question(s)

    2) Yes.
    3) No.
    4) Hell No.

imho, its not good to be too competitive. i prefer to be laid back rather than get jealous over a guy who beat me in a maths mock or something. Don't be over competitive, as you will keep thinking to be the best by comparing yourself to someone and getting carried away revising.

What is your definition of unhealthy competition? Someone who is constantly saying "What did you get? What did you get?" and someone who is also competitive saying "Heck, if i got better then you, I would tell you!!"

    Have you ever experienced it?
    Yes, every school day

    Does it bother you?
Hell yes. I don't come to school to have my friends constantly nagging about their depressing exam results and looking over their shoulder at what I'm writing or how fast I'm writing, trying to copy and catch up. I don't come to school to have them say "o so-and-so is a genius at English only because of his vocabulary and without it he would be just as good as me" and the next day he's gone and brought all the study books on English vocabulary and when he does well he boasts like hell such as "Yessss for once i got a better mark then you" (fist Pump). it's so annoying i want to punch him in the face

at the end of the day, this isn't a competition between friends. Were up against the entire world.

Is it necessary for success? No, sit down shut up, study hard. You can boast well after the exams to yourself if your successful!!!!!

I didn't know what exactly unhealthy competition was until I looked it up. I'm afraid to say that I'm so competitive that it has led to that. I have cried in class more than once when I didn't get the grade I wanted because I felt so much shame. Being raised in a strict (asian) household has made me fear failure and being a top student raises your standards really high. People always tell me I did my best and that it's still really good, but that's just not enough for me. I felt so much jealousy for people who got awards instead of me and would feel really depressed for a whole day.

However, recently, I have started feeling more proud of what I'd been through rather than obviously big achievements. For instance, when I did my exams, I felt that I revised really hard and couldn't have done better. The fact that my mother said she was proud of my hard work afterwards for the first time moved me so much. She had never said anything that encouraging to me until that moment.

Does it bother me? Well, the fact that I get too emotional does. However, I always find my competitive streak to be a positive thing about me as I always take up a challenge and never give up. I'm willing to work hard to reach the top and will do anything to get there with positivity in mind. There are more important characteristics than being competitive to succeed in life, but as long as it's healthy and it keeps you on your feet, you should embrace it and put it to good use.
