    Facebook Dilema... Help required!!!
Hiya, I'll try not to bore anyone with some long story but I could really use an impartial opinion!

Basically I've been no angel in the past and gotten into my fair share of trouble and I've been rather lucky to come away relatively squeeky clean. Entering this academic year I was on a 'last chance saloon' at college, as I was allowed to re-sit my a-levels provided there was no more 'trouble' inside or outside of college. At the time I was an avid facebook user and enjoyed the benefits of the website. However, some 'child' decided to try and impress my ex-gf (he must have liked her) by posting abusive/ sarcy comments towards me and some close female friends of mine. Naturally I reacted, but luckily for me he was that much of a coward/ p**sy that the first time I confronted him on the matter he froze on the spot, and assured me that no such incident would occur again without me needing to get physical.

Since then I promiced myself never to go on facebook again, not only because of the potential trouble it can cause, but also because when going to uni to meet new people, I don't want them seeing my shady past/ who I was, but rather the new person I'm trying to be. However, If several mates are to be believed, it is useful to have facebook while at uni, for parties, getting to now flatmates beforehand etc.

So my ultimate question is... to re-register on facebook or not?

    Cheers

Can't you just re-register on facebook with another email address, therefore creating a new profile?

Could have been longer...just wanted to get across the idea that because of my past behaviour people try and get away with stuff online because they knew I couldnt really react.

Just worried if I head to uni the same may happen if I go back on

My old accounts deleted so yeah... Its not so much the technical side of things. It just that I've saved a lot of time/ trouble by not being on facebook, but from what Ive heard its a pretty big part of student life and I may need it at uni! Is it an essential part of uni, or does it just make the first few weeks easier?

I would say yes (probably under a different account), even if just for the start. You will find that a Facebook group for your course pops up, which everybody joins and then proceeds to add you as a friend. This is just a good way of putting names to faces before actually meeting them for the first time. A lot of social events are organised by Facebook too however. Your Facebook group is also very useful when it comes to assignments. Most of the answers to any mini-test that we had ended up on there somehow :ninja:

You don't have to be an avid user, it's just nice to check from time to time

I'm not at uni yet so I can't really say, but there has been lots of information from the student union and about freshers week on facebook so far. I think it would be useful to have

Hi I'm a uni student (with Facebook) , but I also know a handful of people at uni who don't have Facebook and use text to communicate instead.

From experience having Facebook can be useful at uni; I had a few seminar groups where we had to do group work so as a group we used Facebook to communicate meeting times and information etc.

It just depends how you feel about it, but as others have said a new account should solve past problems.

    xx
