I'm average looking and so are most people yet I feel so terrible :(
I've recently started feeling so ridiculously horrible! And a comment I received this morning has been on my mind all day. I've always known I was average looking, with only my body boosting my appeal (pretty much the figure Miley Cyrus has now). However, my friends were a lot prettier than me, literally model like and this has never bothered me one bit! But today I was talking to a guy and referring to how hot my friends were and he said "You've got the bum and legs babe. Massive plus" This made me feel so horrible almost worthless, as I'm not as good looking as my friends! yet I should have been able to take it as a compliment? But this comment worsened my overall mood, I mean I should be happy with myself, I'm just an average looking and this shouldn't be a bad thing girl as most people are just average but I feel like crap and have done for quite a while now...

I really shouldn't be feeling like considering I'm 19, but my self esteem has recently just hit rock bottom all of a sudden and I used to be okay with how I looked.

Also the fact that all my friends have boyfriends doesn't help things..

It makes me feel even worse when all my friends have or had boyfriends and I haven't...

I feel the same way I'm very content with my figure but so very much unhappy with my face. I would trade in my body any day for a pretty face. Since I'm going through a rock bottom self esteem myself I can't really offer you much advice, but just know that you are not alone I think it's worse for us because the world is so very shallow but I think we just have to be strong. Try and contact Childline (Under 18's but still helpful, you're only one year older). Personally their effect was temporary but I'm going to contact Nightline and the Samaritans too. I'm also hoping to go to my GP next week and get some anti-depressants. I think you might have body dysmorphia disorder so do mention that too to your GP.

Anyways, I just realised that your main concern is that you are 'average', so not exactly 'unattractive'. Well honestly, you're probably above average but average really isn't bad. I would be content with being labelled 'average'. I once heard that people with 'average faces' look better with a bit of makeup so try that - but mainly focus on working on your self-esteem.

As for the guy, don't take what he said to heart. He sounds really shallow and beauty is in the eye of the beholder - I am sure there are people who find you attractive. I might be wrong but 'massive plus' means a 'bonus' so he didn't exactly say that your face is not nice looking he could have just meant that you have a nice face AND a nice bum & legs - so a plus.

    Best of luck xx
