What does it take to join the Front of House team at a West End theatre?
Ok so I've applied to 20+ west end theatres and so far have only received one rejection email. Just wondered what criteria they use to decide who they're going to interview and employ. Do you have to be good looking? All the ushers that I've ever seen are but I'm not. Or is it just because I can only work until late september (going back to uni after)?

One person in the box office actually said to me "you needn't go round to all the theatres, I've already received 4 cv's from you" which surprised me because how could he possibly know who I am? I'd never applied to that particular theatre before.

Tbh i've found the whole experience of going round theatres handing out CV's a bit soul destroying and I'm finding life a bit difficult atm. I'm only offered unpaid work, it's like I'm not worth anything. I'm at the end of my tether.

    Hey

A lot of West End theatres are owned by the same company, hence why they already have your application (eg, Ambassador Theatre Group)

Just remember that there are hundreds of theatre students in London probably doing the same thing as you, so don't get too downhearted. Maybe try some of the less known theatres that do smaller shows, and are less central?

The fact you're going to uni after may have something to do with it, 2 months isn't a very long time to work somewhere.

    maybe that's the problem

I would have thought that some theatres would hire temps but oh well.
