Won a Nuffield Bursary but have nowhere to go!
Earlier this year I applied for a Nuffield Bursary in my area and succeeded. I put down 'biomedical sciences/biochemistry' as areas of interest, and we had the induction meeting, after which we heard nothing.

I rang up a few days ago to enquire about the status of it, seeing as I have now began my summer holidays (yesterday) and don't have the entire 6 weeks free, and the coordinators told me that they are struggling to find placements for everyone who put down biosciences as their main providers have made redundancies this year (so aren't accepting placements) and their affiliated Universities are also not accepting students for a placement. They encouraged me to set up my own but I have no contacts with doctors or lecturers and wouldn't know where to start!

I've spent most of today phoning various research institutes, enquiring about placements, and have had no success. I'm more than willing to travel far (in Sussex at the moment but will happily go to London or further) in order to secure a placement! I was really looking forward to this Does anyone have any ideas as to where I could try/people to contact?

Hey, did you find a place in the end? Got a problem.... try be you could give me some advice?

    Please see my post below.....

Have been REALLY interested in applying for a Nuffield Research Placement, but a just read the parents section in which it says that students that go to an independent school have to use their school and family links to set up their own placements!!! :ashamed2: I don't have any family/friends links and my school said they cant help. After reading so many positive reviews and knowing that it would be a great valuable experience, was really looking forward to it!! :cry2:

An pretty gutted.....Anyone been in a similar situation or got any advice?? What shall I do now?

    (P.S. Am interested in Neuroscience)
