Iphone 4 screen replacement
Hi guys,
As you can guess i recently dropped my iPhone and basically destroyed the screen
I was going to get my iPhone replaced by apple anyway as the camera doesn't work and they said they'd replace it but since then my warranty has ran out so I doubt they will give me a new one now. Anyway, Im thinking about sending it to a screen repair shop, does anyone have any experience with any screen repair companies who they can refer me to who will fix it quickly and are reliable? Also if anyone has any other advice then it'd be greatly appreciated. I was going to buy extend warranty but you can only get it within the first year which i didn't realise
anyway thanks

I too had to fix an iPhone recently. After researching I found it would be much easier to repair it myself. Got a new glass screen and tools for about a tenner whereas the repair shops were asking for 40-50.
If you're comfortable doing it yourself I would suggest you do. However since the camera is also broken that will be more difficult. Haven't had any experience with shops repairing them. I would recommend you go to a repair shop/online as apple will severly over charge. When I was looking I found some decent ones online.

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacementIm not honestly bothered about the camera, barely use it anyway. More concerned about the screen. I don't really wanna fix it myself as i will probably end up breaking it(Original post by D4rth)

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacement
I've replaced the screen in my iphone too, but it was a 3G.
It depends. Is it just the outer screen (digitiser) that's cracked, or is the actual LCD display inside broken? On the 3G, my LCD display was fine, but the outer screen was scratched. It was fairly easy to replace the outer screen because it's simply screwed onto the LCD display. However, later iphones have these two components glued together to keep dust out. To separate them you need a heat gun.
If you only have to replace the outer screen, it's much cheaper than also replacing the LCD, however the repair is more involved. You can buy the LCD+screen as one unit which is much easier to replace, however it will be more expensive. One serious problem I had with buying replacement LCD displays though is that the quality of the image is far below the original Apple unit. It looked pretty bad. I'm not sure if Apple themselves sell an original Apple LCD, but if they do it is probably expensive. -
Re: Iphone 4 screen replacementIsn't the digitiser under the first piece of glass? So it goes glass, digitiser, LCD? Anyway, OP, I wouldn't recommend trying to repair it yourself, my dad managed to render mine useless in doing so(Original post by SMed)

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacement
This happened to me too. Something was wrong with the hardware in my iPhone and then I dropped it and smashed the screen. My warranty was void too because it was outdated but I thought I may aswell take it in to Apple to see what they recommend. Explained to the Apple employee what my problem was and they gave me a replacement within minutes. My advice would be to just take it and see what they can do, that's the thing I like about Apple, they seem to be spot on when it comes down to customer service!

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacementDon't worry about the warranty, just go into the Apple shop, and if you explain your case, they're more than likely to replace it for you(Original post by el.sammo)

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacementYou should repair it yourself Much cheaper and pretty simple to do if you are thinking of doing so i would highly recommend this website to buy OEM apple parts for the screen and camera.(Original post by el.sammo)

Re: Iphone 4 screen replacementThey do not supply OEM LCD displays. At least they don't for the 3G. I bought one and promptly returned it as the image quality was really poor. Otherwise, they are a fantastic company. Some of the best customer service I've seen. They are highly recommended.(Original post by thairshan)
