How flexible are the Uni of Bath wrt course changes?
I've got an offer of A*AA to do maths at Bath, and am predicted A* in maths and physics, and an A in further maths. I'm quite confident that I can get those grades. But towards the end of A-level I was getting really interested in physics as well, especially the quantum and astro side of things - the neutrino anomaly was the focus of one of my pieces of coursework and the Higgs thing is right up my street. I'm wondering how they might react to me asking to transfer onto the Maths with Physics course, and how smooth the change is. Does anyone on here have experience with dealing with them?

I would email them, but there are so many different people on their site - do I message admissions or the HoD of maths or the HoD of physics...?

You'll be much more likely to succeed in this after results day (when UCAS will have less control over things) by getting in touch with your current head of department who will then coordinate with the other department.
Since you don't yet have a confirmed place, if you decide to get in contact at this time then it seems like better form to go through admissions.

Disclaimer: I have not ever had to switch course.

Ah brilliant, that sounds like a plan. So talk to the maths HoD about it when I'm there? Might as well give pure maths a go before switching.

    Also, loving the sig.

Yep, but best to try to get it done ASAP. Most important members of staff (ie. non-middle-management) answer their emails all-year-round so it could be possible to get something organised with the head of department (or at least make sure they are aware of the situation) before even setting foot in Bath.

not sure what you mean by this

The university itself always has the power to change things with its applicants (like change courses), UCAS doesn't have a say in this, its simply there to facilitate whatever changes are necessary. It could be done now if the uni and the applicant want to, what has the coming after results day got to do with this?

You can just wait till you get to university. I do economics and it's very easy to switch from Economics to Economics with Politics/International Development. A*AA is the highest offer they give so its not like you're switching to a harder course so they are much more likely to be lenient. I'm not in that department, but in my department I know people who have flitted back and forth, changing course 3 times (all very similar courses) and I'm guessing it's the same with Maths/Physics.

This is mostly from the experience last year of not being given straight answers to questions and requests by Bath staff until the results were final and offers concreted.

I'd guess this has something to do with not wanting to exceed place quotas, or perhaps it's just their way of trying to avoid giving out information that conflicts with what other bodies might have said.

Perhaps it's not a widespread thing and they just didn't like me
