    raf pre rtc
hey all im currently in the process of applying for the air force, i have previously applied and passed everything but then changed my mind. since then things have changed, ive currently passed my first interview, passed my medical, and passed my pre joining fitness test. have not got any dates from my afco yet about pre rtc or anything. all i want to know is on the pre rtc i know there is a multi stage fitness test, do i have to pass this? if i fail any aspect of it will it terminate my application? any help would be much appreciated!

    Yes, it is a pass/fail.

And it is scaring the hell into me, i have to do it on wednesday morning at Halton. Im fit enough, i've passed it before, but cant stop considering all the variables that could cause a fail and make me wait another year.

They dont give much away about the RAF-specific rules, there are PTI's who cruise this website so maybe PM them, but i imagine they wont be easy on you. Maybe if you miss the line once you have an opportunity to sprint for the next beep but i doubt you get more chances after that.

If im not too happy or too depressed when i get out of PRTC to remember, i will let you know on this thread what i find out about it.

    Well, I passed.
For the Fitness test definitely train as hard as you can. You dont need to be elite fit to pass, it is only a basic level of fitness needed, but the more training you do will pay off more when you come to the Fitness tests/quick marching in boots/marching on a hot day and you want to impress and not look like your about to die.
The RAAFT is now being done at 08:00 on the wednesday which means that the gymnasium is nice and cool, which makes reaching 9.10 a breeze. You've also had a good breakfast + shower to feel ready, and you run the test in a line so keeping pace is easy. You will get opportunities to sprint to keep up if you miss the line (i think you get 2 chances). If you feel that you've had enough, keep on pushing because you will be hating yourself for not trying as hard as you could have when you're clearing out your locker. The beep test will stop when you reach the level you need to reach.

That said, there are just as many fails in the sit-up test than the beep test. Proper form is for your elbows to touch the top of your kneecap and fingers to always be in contact with your temples. You could be doing 50 in a minute instead of 35 if form isnt correct as the bad ones wont be counted.
Practice situps with good form everyday, it only takes a minute.

Pressups are a piece of piss.

FAIL TO PREPARE, PREPARE TO FAIL.

P.S. If you smoke, I wouldnt recommend quitting. Unless your on 20 a day it wont affect your fitness so much that you will fail/struggle. Time spent in the smokers area is incredibly valuable as the RTS recruits there will be more than happy to answer your questions/share horror stories. Its also a good release of the stress you will feel and a breath of freedom.

well done for passing mate. is there a percentage of press ups/sit ups you have to reach? have been told its 70% to pass. personally i think i can do it becuase i'm training every day but i'm still really rather crapping myself about it. haven't yet got my date for my pre rtc. but again, well done, and good luck for your final interview and of course your RTS

You have to do the required amount that is stated not a percentage.

Thanks. Yeah I had heard that somewhere too, but I think thats how it used to be done years ago.
You will be doing the 100% RAFFT for your age range.

    Good luck.

thanks very much guys, got my phone call this morning about pre rtc, 2 dates, either the 25th july or 8th august, both are unrealistically close, so i called them back and said these dates are inconvenient, so now the 12th sept is the probable date for my pre rtc. on the upside gives me more time to train and get confident with it, but thanks for all the info guys and good luck with the rest of your applications and training
