Politics with Economics Modules
On the course I would love to take some of the optional Economics modules offered, and listed on the catalogue, but after looking at some of the requisites, I'm not sure whether I would be able to take them.
For example, in Year 3, the Economics of Transitions module is listed under Politics with Economics' optional units, but the requisites are 'ES10001 and take ES10002 plus any two second year economics units.' Both of those modules are unavailable to the Politics with Economics course on the catalogue. I don't get why they are listed but not able to be taken? -
Re: Politics with Economics Modules
I don't know but I'm guessing you don't need them, they probably just copied it over from the Economics bit and didn't bother to read it. Otherwise why would they list them, as you say? You could email them if you wanted.
I'm doing (or hoping to do) Pol with Econ at Bath too btw

Re: Politics with Economics ModulesYeah when I emailed them a while back about something it took them like 2 weeks.(Original post by tjboo)
I have emailed them and haven't seen a reply for days. Ah right that's awesome. I really like economics but hate maths, and these modules don't seem maths based. Really want to take those modules. -
Re: Politics with Economics Modules
Emailed the director of studies and he said that we can take whatever is listed because the year long economics module we do essentially covers the intro to micro/macro that the full time economics students do that is the pre-requisite to most of the other economics modules. I firmed Bath as a result. Will only be 35 of us on the course...providing we get the AAAs

Yeah I thought it was a small group but wow that is small! And there are 3 of us on here that have firmed it (that I know of). Where'd you get that number from - is that the number of offers they have given out or the number they expect to get the grades? -
Re: Politics with Economics Modules
They offer about 120 but not everyone will firm/get the grades. It has 35 listed on the course on their website. Last year it was even less, it was about 25 or so, we've upped the ante this year! Looking forward to the course. Will probably try and take as many economics modules as possible.
I hope we all get the grades. Will be quite good actually to be on a small course. We will all be able to get to know each other quite well I'm sure, especially if there is group work. I assume though it depends on the optional modules we do which I guess will be across a variety of departments. Should be good nonetheless.
Are you going on a placement year btw?Last edited by tjboo; 23-04-2012 at 19:19. -
Re: Politics with Economics ModulesYeah well also I suppose loads of those people with offers will go to Oxbridge, Durham etc... And yeah I suppose we will, though will we as a group actually be in anything as just us? I suppose we'll be in politics lectures with politics students and economics lectures with economics students - just have to look out for whoever's in both haha.(Original post by tjboo)

Re: Politics with Economics Modules
Yeah I'm not sure. Not sure if there are any modules exclusive to our course or not. We might make up a significant amount of some of them for the ones which are compulsory for us and not the others. I think we might be for Introductory Economics as I think the Economics students do Introduction to Micro/Macro as separate ones? We'll have to see.

Re: Politics with Economics ModulesYeah. Have you applied for accommodation by the way? I've gone for Norwood.(Original post by tjboo)

Re: Politics with Economics ModulesI doubt you would have. Yeah it does, I've applied to Norwood(Original post by tjboo)
Not yet, only just firmed. Going to be looking accommodation tomorrow. Norwood looks nice, hopefully I haven't missed the boat with the application for the good accommodation :/

OP did you choose where you're applying for accommodation? -
Re: Politics with Economics Modules
Hey,
I know this is quite OT, but I firmed Pol W Econ and I am wondering about the jobs prospects in the financial / business sector such as Consulting etc.
I mean on the website it says that many graduates do that after their course, but isn't our course too less economics?
I am really thankful for any information

Re: Politics with Economics Modules
Well, if you take as many economics modules on offer as you can, particularly the Finance and Money (I think it's called that), you should feel qualified. It will also help if you do one of the finance based placements on offer. I think the degree does keep our options open.
