Local History?
Hello to you all... my fellow students!
It's Barry here again.
I would like to know if any of you have created or know or have links to any local history sites?
I'm from Brownhills in the West Midlands, United Kingdom. I've created a blog myself which you can google and try to find... Brownhills Barry's Balder-dashing Blog!!!
I'm keen to view other websites to see what others are upto etc. or am I the only person boring enough to spend their time creating trivial posts that nobody will read? lol
Regards,
Barry. -
Re: Local History?
I live quite close to Glastonbury, which, although not necessarily historical, has lots of myths and legends going for it (Joseph of Arimathea, the Isle of Avalon, the Holy Grail, ley lines, etc.) which is pretty cool. Actually, I think there is evidence of historical sites there, but everyone remembers the Avalon reference.

Hello Barry,
I live near Charterhouse square in london which dates back as a Carthusian monastery from the 1400s, it was the site during Henry VIII's reformation where either 8 or 16 Carthusian martyrs were burned for their refusal to accept the 1554 oath of supremacy, it then, under James I and with the money of Thomas Sutton became an almshouse and a school for the poor, the square still houses an almshouse and the school has moved to Godalming (being Charterhouse school).
It was also a place where up to 20,000 black death victims were buried.

Re: Local History?Do you mean site, as in website, or site, as in how the people above me have defined it?I would like to know if any of you have created or know or have links to any local history sites?
If the former:
- I came across this one for London when I was looking something up for a history essay: http://londonhistorians.wordpress.com/
- And you can see you're not alone, but I haven't looked at these ones in detail: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...w=1366&bih=681
I hope this helps!
