    Can't decide between Canon t3i (d600) or Nikon V1
I am interested in purchasing my first non-point-and-shoot camera, and the Canon T3I and Nikon V1 were both recommended to me.

I'm going to be traveling extensively, so the Nikon 1V's smaller size is very appealing. I feel like I would be more willing to carry it around and use it. However, I've been told the Canon t3i takes better pictures. I am a novice photographer, so I'm not sure how pronounced this difference will be to me. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I'm concerned that in the future - once I know more about photography - that I will wish I had made a different decision on the camera.

    Thank you!

They are two different sorts of cameras; the Canon 600D (I'll keep on using 600D, T3i is a) harder to type and b) I have to actively remember it) is a DSLR, whereas the Nikon V1 is a compact system camera, which is like a hybrid between a compact and a DSLR. Compact systems cameras use smaller sensor, which is why the image quality isn't as good and they're also not as good in low light situations; however, they still take good photos.

Which one you should get depends upon your primary motivation. Do you want it because you're genuinely interested in photography and intend it to be a long term hobby, or do you want it because you want to take nice photos of your travels?

The former: get 600D, or another DSLR. You may not notice the difference at first, but as you develop it's my opinion that you would find a compact system camera frustrating and limiting. The size isn't as off-putting as you think it would be, and there are ways to keep it smaller (it's a small-ish DSLR body, you can avoid having huge lenses, and the bag you buy has a huge effect.)

The latter: take the money and spend it on a really good compact instead (really good, something like this.) Your photography tends to get worse when you start up with a DSLR (it does correct itself with time and practice, before you worry!) and you need to adjust all the settings yourself to get the best out of them - not what you really want to be doing about all the time if you're not genuinely interested in it, plus you'll find it harder to improve if you don't enjoy it.

Well, I suggest you buy Cannon 600D or Cannon 7D. Anyone of those performs best and quite appealing.
