Re: Is London Metropolitan University any goodShaun, stay away from this forum. You wouldn't get a sensible answer trust me.(Original post by ShaunW500)
Is London Metropolitan University any good, I been hearing so many bad things about it. I might be studying Computer Animation there, but I do not know now. Anybody been there past year or so? -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any goodShaun, if you ask in this forum, then you wouldn't get any answer. As a current student of this uni, I have been offered masters position in University of Manchester in Faculty of Computing. So I will join Manchester Uni next year. Talking about your course, our Gamelab has been nominated for BAFTA award twice and currently working with BBC. Every year students get placements in Intel, RBS, Barclays and HSBC !! Can give you loads !! Its all about yourself not the uni. If you are good, then you are good anywhere. Well all those oxbridge students come to do their masters in our Architect department. Go and talk to them they will tell you their experiences.(Original post by ShaunW500)

This forum, they think Russell group is everything, so what? I have been offered in one of top university getting degree from London Met. So better not to listen to them. -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any good
I'm a current London Met student and it is not the as bad as what people generally say it is. But I'd suggest to you stay away unless you have no other choice.
I'm on one of the science courses and whilst it is not too bad, I feel that there is a noticeable difference in teaching quality and lack of a good general student atmosphere (compared to Cardiff).
The staff there are nice and would help you and yes, what you make of the course does matter (perhaps someone rather hire you/accept you into a masters if you get a first instead of a 2:2). -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any good
I am an Audio systems undergraduate in my third year at London Met. The course so far has had both good & bad points. The London Metropolitan building I study in (John Cass) , 30 years ago was the London College of Furniture and then ( I think ) changed into the Guildhall Uni before it became London Met. So the building has a strong history of design of furniture, guitar making, jewellery making, silversmithing and metal work. The Audio systems section is OK. There are 3 main studios, with live rooms, video suites and audio computer labs which, when I started were up to date-ish. 2 years later things are starting to look older and a bit more out of date but with the overhauling of the entire module system from 6 month to yearly semesters, this is bound to change. London metropolitan plans on seriously re vamping their buildings on the city campus.
Teaching wise, there will always be good tutors, mediocre and bad tutors. London Met has its share of all of these. -

Re: Is London Metropolitan University any good
Hey Guys!
If i get a bachelor degree in economics from London Metropolitan University, even with first class honours, will it be possilble to be accepted in postgraduate degrees in economics and finance offered by universities of high reputation(ex LSE, Cass, UCL)? -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any goodUsually the reputation of the institution where your undergraduate degree was studied has no effect whatsoever when applying to elite Universities. For instance a friend of mine graduated from Middlesex University with a First and has been accepted into the LSE.(Original post by gavz1311)

However your scenario has two problems. Firstly I'm pretty sure its impossible for you to gain a place at any of the Universities you quoted for MSc Economics/Finance as the quantitative elements covered in low ranking universities is significantly easier than that covered in a top University. However you may be able to level this out by taking the GMAT exam.
Second; London Met is exceptionally bad and the recent deportation issue proves this.
Anyway I hope I helped. -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any good
Regardless of the snob factor it does appear to be badly administered as for the second time in a few years students are being kicked out of courses there through no fault of their own.
Downstream this is bad news for uk students there as the uni will have a funding hole in 2012/13 without all those foreign student fees.
Tbh I think there are so many scandals coming out of the place it's probably going to be the hatchetmans first target if the government does decide to break up or shotgun merge a university, to the disadvantage of anyone studying there at the time. -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any goodThe fact that is really concerning me is that with a £30M hole in this year balance, can the Uni survive?? What is going to happen if in few months, when i'll be studying there, the Uni will go in bankrupt? Will i have backup from the government, is there the possibility to be transferred in another Uni, or i will just be f*****d up in the arse?(Original post by Joinedup)

I'm putting on my back just for the first year a loan of £6.000, and i hope that apocalyptic stuff like this will not happen...
Argh and i left my country thinking that things like this were only possible there (Italy).. what a funny fate.. -
Re: Is London Metropolitan University any goodshe passed away due to a heart attack, probably caused by an intense burst of euphoria.(Original post by Aspiringlawstudent)
