    Cool Runnings - Tom's Blog
Just a blog for my progress on the NHS Couch to 5k program
    --> http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/couch-...ning-plan.aspx

Have done a fair bit of running the past (on and off, and not well if i'm honest haha)

Have 3 more months of summer left until uni so I guess becoming fit would be a good thing to do.

    Week 1 Run 1 - 26/06/2012

Went well, nice easy start for me which is good as it means I shouldn't get injured early on and stall.

The podcast was nice, especially not having to fiddle with a stopwatch/ipod separately.

I'm purely running for general fitness and so I won't be posting weight stats and all the rest (I'm 18 and thin, just unfit lol)

What is the point of a blog if you're not putting in any stats for users to be interested in ? >
People often keep blogs to log their progress... in your case how would you go about it ?

My progress = if I actually keep the program going.

I have no doubt I can finish the program, this thread is just to keep me motivated.

Sorry if there's nothing for everyone else to be interested in lol

    Week 1 Run 3

Brought a friend along this time. Went smoothly, bit of ankle discomfort during running, perhaps I should invest in some proper running shoes (As far as I know I overpronate something shocking)

Need a light waterproof jacket as well (yeh thanks summer in Ireland :L)

    Week 2 Run 1

Felt good, the program eases you in slowly, so I didn't really notice the extra running time.

if you end up getting proper shoes would you mind quoting or pming me with the results? i starting running for fitness in cheap trainers and got ankle pain as well. just not sure if £50 shoes will fix it.

    Will do.

The problem is I'm not sure whether the general ankle pain is from lack of exercise or something to with the fact I have quite thin feet/ankles.

I'm sure if I went into a running shop today they'd give me a whole lecture about me needing "special support pro" trainers or something but ah well

Fine again, bit of general knee pain at the start which left, shin pain towards the end which subsided.

First run of Week 3 done, felt quite easy, mainly because it seemed a lot quicker cause there was less walking time.

Week 3 should be fine, the next week looks fairly hard though lol

and that's Week 3 done, can't wait to start week 4

Had a weird feeling in my knee, like a bruise underneath the skin, wasn't painful tbh and passed after the run.

Was thinking of investing in a waterproof light coat but the prices are stupidly high, 50/60 quid minimum for a decent coat in a running store, eh no lol I'd rather get wet

Did my first run of Week 4 yesterday, found it pretty tough, failed to finish each of the 5 min runs by like 30 secs.

It wasn't sunny but very humid so i sweated a lot.

Ah well, next run I'll try and finish the 5 min runs

Np, it's nice to keep a log to look back on for a program.

    Week 4 Run 3

First run outside in 2 weeks or so, taking a bit of getting back used to it.

Will need to repeat this run this week as I stopped prior to the last 5 min run with a upper leg complaint, nothing serious but I didnt want to stress it.

Still other than that a very enjoyable run!

    Week 4 done.

Realised I was running too fast, a big reason why the 5 min runs were killing me, slowed it down and was able to complete

    Bring on Week 5
