    BCIT Vs ITMB
    Hello All,

I am really stuck and confused on what I should do at university in 2013. I was thinking either doing the ITMB at UCL or BCIT at Aston Uni.

Both my brothers have done the ITMB at UCL so I know it is a good course, I am only worried that if I do go to Aston it will be less of a chance to get a good job. But Aston has more business emphasis.

    What do you all recommend?

Ps- ITMB = Information Management for Business
BCIT = Business Computing and IT

    Thanks in advance.

I'm in the same situation as you mate. However, none of my other brothers studied ITMB at university... what are their experiences like? I'm contemplating whether to go with the ITMB degree which has in all honesty, completely sold me so far, or a more mainstream mix of Business & IT in another similar degree.

It's a tough option, but I genuinely feel I'll have better job prospects with the ITMB degree in comparison which is the most significant selling point of the course to be honest. I'd say go with ITMB if you can get in. What are you currently studying? I'm also in Y12 doing an ICT Nationals course at Level 3 alongside a couple of AS Levels. Hoping to get DD in the Nationals (AA = 240 UCAS Points) on top of an A/B with one of my other A Levels at A2. Decisions, decisions, decisions huh?

    Hey,
Yeah I am doing the Extended National in IT, predicted D*D*D*, as well as the Extended Project :P

It is very hard to decide what to do, though ITMB might be a better option, but so many doing the BCIT have gone on to 30k + jobs, so it is evenly balanced.

I feel like they're almost the same course, only difference being ITMB is in my opinion, more employable. If I could land the opportunity to work at a big IT firm with strong job security and the ability for promotions I'd be pretty happy and I think that with all the showcase's and guru lectures thats the advantage it gives you over the competition.

I guess, the only thing I pushes me towards the BCIT is the emphasis on businesses, it is 60% business and 40% IT.

Also the first year is common, studying fundamentals at the business school.

Also if you do work hard enough you can get a job, someone on my other thread said they landed a job with Capgemeni from the BCIT- It is all possible

So have you decided yet? I'm pretty much 100% sure all 5 universities I'll be applying to through UCAS will be for the ITMB degree. Now it's just a case of shortlisting 14 universities down to 5...

What I'm planning on doing is going with 4 of my favourites and 1 weaker option. So really there's two pools to it in my opinion:

    Pool A(Best):
    • Exeter
    • Lancaster
    • Loughborough
    • Manchester
    • Aston
    • Sheffield

    Pool B:
    All of the seven others.

Obviously because I haven't yet attended any Open Days for any of these universities apart from Aston University I can't really decide right now so I have some thinking to do really.
