Hi

I just wondered when do people start looking for houses for the next academic year? For example, towards the end of this year or sometime next year?

And are there many student houses available in Bath? Or is the process of looking for a house quite hectic in Bath?

Hi, it's usually around Christmas but people do leave it later. I guess you can say it is quite hectic as everyone tends to look at the same time so you may be viewing a house and whilst you're there someone else claims it. There are a lot of student houses available though so you will find a house fine

Get your group probably just before Christmas and then deal with actually finding the house after January exams.

Anytime between Xmas and March is pretty standard. We viewed and signed for one from January to Feb - despite what people say, they're NOT gone by then and it's probably safer to give it a couple more months so you're sure about the group too. I knew some people who'd signed by Christmas, but now half of them are in different friendship groups.

You will get a talk about private accomidation sometime around Christmas and also there is a time when the accomodation lists are released by the accomodation office listing all the student houses. Do not worry about securing a house before this but when it iss released you want to go and look at houses that morning as they get snapped up fast. You will always be able to get something but the best ones go first, also if you are a big group ie. 6 or more there are not quite as many properties available.

This is how it was in 2006 but things might of changed so you will need to find out yourself for sure.
