2nd year results - calculations and worries
Hi everyone,
So my university finally let us know our exam results.
I was examined in 2 of my modules this year and I'm having trouble with calculations
Module 1 - 63
Module 2 - 64
Half of Module 3 - 66
My 3rd year is weighted very heavily 75% vs. 25% in 2nd year.
Can anybody tell me what average I have to work up to be in with a chance of a first (or is this unrealistic)?
Also - is applying for an MA with a low 2.1 worth it?
Thanks for the help. I worked hard but I'm quite disappointed. -
Re: 2nd year results - calculations and worriesThese are all the results I have for now. I'm assessed on the rest next year.(Original post by Shelly_x)
What are the rest of your results? -
Re: 2nd year results - calculations and worriesOk, so it looks like a module is worth 10%(Original post by sundogs)

So you currently have 6.3+6.4+3.3 = 16%
For a 1st you will need 70%
70 - 16 = 54
But that is out of 75% available
54/75 = 72%
So you need an average of 72% next year (your average this year was 64%) so will need to do better -
Re: 2nd year results - calculations and worries
Why would you be dispapointed? You got a mid 2.1 and as you say, it's only 25%. I would be over the moon with those results!
Still very very possible for you to get a 1st.
In my course (40:60 split for 2nd:3rd year), the vast majority get 2.1/2.2s in 2nd year. Only 4 people got 1sts. A lot more people get 1sts after 3rd year.
If you put your mind to it and do a decent dissertation/research project then you should be fine! -
Re: 2nd year results - calculations and worriesIn hindsight I perhaps overreacted a tad - my results are good they just aren't quite as high as I was expecting and I need a decent 2.1 to apply for Masters.(Original post by skotch)

Thanks anyway -
Re: 2nd year results - calculations and worriesYeh, I need a 2.1 for a masters too, but I've been told that the focus lies on doing well in 3rd year, especially my research project (accounts for 30% of my degree I believe).(Original post by sundogs)
