Books for MT1002 at St Andrews
    Hello!

I am going to do MT1002 as a part of my economics degree in September, and I was thinking I should prepare myself by starting to read the course material. But the reading list for the course states 7 different books, and I really don't want do buy them all. Can anyone tell me which book of the following that gives the best overview over the MT1002 course?

Advanced engineering mathematics - Kreyszig, Erwin, c1999
    Book | Textbook
Advanced engineering mathematics - Kreyszig, Erwin, c2006
    Book | Textbook
    Calculus: a complete course - Adams, Robert A., c2003
    Book | Textbook

    Book | Textbook
Calculus - Swokowski, Earl W., Olinick, Michael, Pence, Dennis, Cole, Jeffery A., c1994
    Book | Textbook
Numbers, sequences and series - Hirst, Keith Edwin, 1995
    Book | Textbook
    Vectors in 2 or 3 dimensions - Hirst, A. E., 1995

I would really appreciate any help I can get

Hi, I'm going to be doing MT1002 next year too! Where did you find that reading list? I just had a quick look here (p23) and it only has 4 books for that module:
E Kreyszig - Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Wiley, 10th Ed, 2011
    R A Adams - Calculus, A Complete Course, Pearson 2010
    K E Hirst - Numbers, Sequences and Series, Butterworth-Heinemann, London, 1995
    K E Hirst - Vectors in 2 and 3 Dimensions, Butterworth-Herinemann, London, 1995

Personally I wouldn't buy any textbooks until the lecturers say which ones are the most important, and there will be some in the library anyway. From what I've heard from friends, there was a lot of revision at the beginning of the module (although I suppose it depends on your background in maths) so you should have time to brush up in September before you get to much new stuff. You're really better off asking questions like this in the St Andrews forum btw - someone else there might be able to help you a bit more.

I just typed in mt1002 in this link: http://resourcelists.st-andrews.ac.uk/index.html
But it seems like the books are mostly the same for the two lists

I guess you are right about waiting to buy textbooks, I am just curious about what to expect

Thanks for the tip about the st. Andrews forum. I was not aware of its existence!
