My first car or should I be wary.
Hi just bought a car for £1800 its a 1.8 vauxhall astra sri 06 plate from a guy I met online he wanted £300 deposit but I only paid £100 i didn't get a receipt or anything but I trust the guy because my mate who works with me knows him very well apparantly and i'm getting insurance for around £700-900 fully comprehensive at the age of 18 as main driver (Live in manchester near city centre) passed by test around 10 months ago NO NCB or convictions of any sort. Is this too good to be true or not? I will comment back on monday when I go to buy the car if I haven't been ripped off!

That is great deal, does this guy sell cars or he is selling his?
When are you expecting to complete the transaction?
My main aim would be to keep in contact with him until the deal is done and you have your mate as a witness if anything goes wrong

He is selling his as his dad just bought him a BMW straight from the showroom. Yeah I was first looking to pay by wednesday but now to think about it I should complete the transaction ASAP because I need the car quickly for work etc. My mate is also my leader at work and the benefits of knowing him so soon are showing lol

Have you had a test drive, and looked under the bonnet etc. Maybe get a mecanic to look at it so you know everything is legit

Yeah I had a test drive. I have my colleague with me he's knows so much about cars and his cousin owns a garage so I'm going to get it checked out there. It just passed MOT.

First I just looked on auto trader then I just looked online classifed ads such as gumtree etc

Im not that stupid I bought it after seeing the vehicle and test driving it. Getting insurance for 1800 on it for myself and that covers up to 4 vehicles

    Well you're alright then.

For what it's worth I once bought a car unseen - a '74 morris marina coupe. I was only spending £500 so thought it worth the gamble.

We recently had someone from Ireland buy a £28,000 car from us... The first time he saw it was when it arrived on the transporter at his house.

    Who is the insurance with?

It sounds a bit dodgy, and i wouldn't what to pay anything before i know its on the MID. Especially as you said you have been on gumtree, the amount of so called 'cheap insurers' out to con people on there is unreal.

If it is all legit then that is low insurance for a 1.8.

What is the mileage of the car? I would have thought it would have to have been fairly high to get it for that price.

The irish are quite trusting. When I sold my 911 it went to ireland sight unseen.
I just dropped it off at the docks!

£1800 for a 2006 Astra SRI? That is a fantastic deal if the car checks out. Even if the mileage is high, most cars are good for over 150k before any big jobs are needed (clutch etc) if serviced properly.

Hope it works out for you! Have you done an HPI check?
