Interview with Pell & Bales
I've heard a lot of stories about how Pell & Bales are always recruiting and if you apply there, you're practically guaranteed the job.
Although I've also heard other stories about how people were rejected after interview. So I'm just wondering if anyone's (recently) had an interview with the fundraising call centre. If so, what was it like?
I'm quite desperate for the job so I really don't want to mess this up. Is there anything I can do to lower my chances of getting rejected?

Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
I've got an interview at 10am this morning. I looked them up on Google to see what other peoples experiences of working for them were like, and they weren't too good, so now I'm contemplating not going. I'm desperate for the money too as I need some extra money whilst I'm at uni. Have you got an interview coming up? If I end up going I'll let you know how I found it, hopefully I'll be able to give you some tips =)

Re: Interview with Pell & BalesI had my interview yesterday actually - got the job. I need to go to some induction training on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday this week though. Yeah I've heard similar, although I have a friend who works there and she says it's alright. The pay's pretty decent and tbh I'm just looking to get out the house - although I may post another thread next week venting about how crap and depressing this job is(Original post by Laila_313)

Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
I have an interview there tomorrow and reading other people's experiences has freaked me out a bit!
Can anyone who previously posted here say whether they got the job, what it was like, are they still there?
When I had my phone interview the guy seemed ok with me wanting full time hours but is it likely I WILL actually get full time hours? I'm sick of not getting enough hours where I currently work (Greggs, I have no trouble with saying it!!) and I desperately need money to live on.
Anyway, any general interview tips would be much appreciated! It's a 2 hour group interview, what should I expect? -
Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
I had an interview today and the lady literally sat with me for about 45 seconds and then told me she would contact me about induction on Saturday and Sunday. But I googled them and it didn't come out amazing. Some people said that if you aren't a student who needs the flexible hours or a soulless person then you shouldn't work there. I don't know how I will cope but I really need the money now I don't get EMA and nobody seems prepared to hire me since I have no interest in fashion retail and everywhere else has no vacancies.
If anybody works there, can you please reply saying what it was like and what happens at the induction and in a normal working day. It would be greatly appreciated

Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
Hope you hear back soon!
They said they'd call me between 7 and 9pm the same day and to be fair they did, it was almost 9pm and the call was to say I didn't get through to the next stage. It sucks as I need the money but possibly a blessing in disguise! They said I wasn't quite confident enough, bull hockey really, I disagree!
They also accidentally called my emergency contact first (I had to fill in forms with loads of info!) and then called me but let it ring once then called again! Considering using a telephone is IMPORTANT, they didn't impress me with their school boy errors!Last edited by aleathiel; 02-08-2012 at 16:41. -
Yeah, she called me saying I was 'better suited to a customer service job'. Tbh I was worried about it, they have a bad reputation. And it took me like 40 minutes to fill in all the forms :/ Anyways, think positive(Original post by aleathiel)

Re: Interview with Pell & BalesSame, I'd gotten myself a bit worried by reading all this stuff on what it's actually like to work for them so relieved I didn't get it now!(Original post by sonia_leon)

Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
Hi Guys
I know this thread is from a while ago but just came across it and thought it might be worth a reply in case anyone else is wondering what it's like at Pell & Bales!
Don't believe everything you hear and read! I have worked at Pell & Bales for over a year now and they are a great organisation to work for.
Firstly the recruitment process is fair- and like any interview you are never guaranteed the job. There is a telephone screening process when you apply to see how you would sound speaking to supporters. Then if you were successful, they invite you in for an assessment to which you have to carry out role plays etc. You would be representing very high-profile charities so of course they would want to know you could do the job well!
The job is great for people who are looking for flexible hours and the best part is that YOU choose your hours. You book them in the system a week in advance and then you are scheduled and briefed onto different charity campaigns, so you become very knowledgeable about the charities you are representing. Further to this the charities come in and talk to you so you definitely feel like your job is worthwhile and working towards helping great causes- fantastic for your CV.
Hope this helps!

Re: Interview with Pell & Bales
Hi there,
I've just had a telephone interview with Pell and Bales and surprisingly (even though I made such an idiot of myself), I'm through to the second stage and I'm meeting them tomorrow. He said that the interview consists of role play where I'm a fundraiser and he's a donator.. Has anyone done this and if so, what was it like? I'm so worried about it and think I'm going to be so bad at it because I'm on the spot and I know that the job depends on it, so I'll be really bad and therefore probably not get the job..
Any response would be much appreciated,
Thanks,
Lara
