Well, you have to include a lot more wider and secondary reading in a university essay than you do for an a-level essay (that's not guided by lecturers) - therefore you need to learn how to reference properly. I think my first ever piece of work I handed in was a bibliography exercise that was supposed to guide you on how to do this, and everything else after that were standard 1,500 and 2,000 word essays.

It's pretty similar... essays and stuff, a few presentations. I used to put in slightly more effort than A-Level and got firsts, until someone told me in the second semester that your first year doesn't count towards your degree (which it didn't at Sheffield), and my grades gradually dipped into the 60s (2:1) They ease you in to it. First year is designed to bring everybody up to the same level (to an extent) and let you settle in to university life.
