Hi everyone,

I just wanted to ask any current KCL dentistry students roughly what their timetable was like in first year. I'm definitely gonna need to work whilst at uni, so I want to have a rough idea as to how many hours I can work whilst studying.

Hi, I am going into 4th year now, so been a while since I was in 1st year . But from what I remember it is pretty much 9-5 lectures most days, with half a day on Wednesday's.

I see, and also, what is the workload like and how does it work lol, a lot of questions I know.

To be brutally honest, it is hard, most people in first year spent a lot of time working, as they are trying to figure out how they study best. There is time to socialise etc, but the workload is pretty high.

There are lectures most days, and exams on these throughout the year, with some dentistry based exams at the end of the year (identifying teeth, and also having a small viva etc).

So I'm guessing A-level revision techniques probably won't work right?

Also, would you recommend working whilst studying then?

If you can get by without a part-time job, it'll be for the best! Saying that I'm sure you could hold a weekend job, if you're ready to take a little extra stress, people have done it before

You can't revise off past papers like A-Levels, but a quick look over your lecture notes when you get home during non-exam time will work wonders when things get a bit c-razy at the end of the year.

Hey splitstriker I ve read quite a few of your previous post advising interview tips to other people and those were some real good tips . I was just wondering if you could give me some tips and techniques about the personal statement especially about the first para and the work Exp para. It would be nice if you could give some personalise tips instead of general ones.

To get personalised tips your best option would be submitting your statement to the ps helpers forum then you can get a full review

From what I have seen the forum is not updated with regards to the dentistry PS section? How frequently do the helpers look at it?

my friend, the best advice I can give you in case you're interested is to keep every sentence of you're statement as slick and concise as possible. It makes you as a person seem so much more intelligent if you can convey your message in more compact sentences.

You submit your statement and someone like me (a ps helper) will reply saying they will look at it for you and then reply back with a full review. Waiting times are mentioned at the top of the page. It's usually about 3 days.

So how do you choose the personal statements that go up for everyone to see? I guessed that if you submitted it then it would be up for all to view?

Only the ps helpers can see it. There is a separate section of example personal statements for every subject though and you should only put yours there if you're happy for everyone to potentially see it.
