Help! Marketing at Brunel vs. Westminster / Uxbridge vs. London.
Hi everyone! I'm a student from Toronto looking to get some honest advice regarding programs at two schools. I've gotten offers from Brunel and Westminster for the MSc Marketing program and MA Marketing Communications programs respectively. I've done extensive research, and it seems quite clear that Brunel is the better university of the two. However, I have a couple of questions:
1) I have a friend going to King's College (Strand Campus). I was planning on living with her next year. I've looked into it, and if I live somewhere like Ealing, it would be about an hour commute for me to school and 40 minutes for her. Is this a realstic living situation, or should I give up on the dream of living more central in favour of being closer to campus?
2) The MA Marketing Communications program at Westminster seems to have more interesting modules than the MSc Marketing program at Brunel... How different are these two universities in POSTGRADUATE rankings? Are their business schools even comparable? I've seen Westminster get a lot of flack on these forums, and I'm wondering why people are so opposed to it?
I'm having a really tough time making decision right now, as I've dreamed of living in London for years. I'm battling between ranking of schools/quailty of programs and location right now. I also plan on working part time during my studies, and would love to work more central. The last thing I want is to live 45 minutes outside of Central London and not get the "London experience" that I've been craving. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Re: Help! Marketing at Brunel vs. Westminster / Uxbridge vs. London.
I'm not an expert on this at all. But I am also in the same boat as you, though I'm from the US. I spent a week in London last week and I stayed in the central London area (near Baker St station). I visited Brunel during my trip and it was a good hour long trip (tube to Uxbridge then the bus from the station to the uni). But I'm still looking forward to living in central London with a friend who will also be attending uni in London. I haven't finalized which uni yet, though Brunel is among the top, but either way I'd have to travel 45 mins - 1hr. Westminster is also among my top, and it's great that it's smack in the middle of central London; at least in regards to where I want to live.
I'd say consider living where you'll be closer to work. Although you don't have a part time job yet, I'm sure you'll be looking for on in central London.
I hope my suggestion helps a little especially since I'm facing this myself right now.
Best,
Britt -
Hey i can only really answer the first question, but ealing would be fine to commute from every day. I live near ealing and am planning on going to brunel as well, i think its just one bus route to the university
it wont be a problem living there, however if you really want the 'london' feel and also a job in central, then living nearer to westminster might be a good idea. Westminster is more central as you probably know, and i looked on the 2012 uni league table which stated that westminster is generally a better university for business. However this didnt specify if that is for postgraduate or undergraduate courses, but i dont think it makes a difference. Westminster might be a better option for you!

Re: Help! Marketing at Brunel vs. Westminster / Uxbridge vs. London.
Hello!
I have the exact same problem, I cannot decide between Marketing Comm at Westminster or Birkbeck, Although according to ranking Birkbeck is way much better, but I really like the program at Westminster and I'm not sure what to pick, a university for its ranking or a program that I can relate to, did you make up your mind yet? -
Re: Help! Marketing at Brunel vs. Westminster / Uxbridge vs. London.1) shouldn't take an hour from Ealing, you need to get the First Great Western Overground train from Ealing Broadway to West Drayton Station- takes 15 mins, and then a bus from West Drayton Station which takes 10mins max.(Original post by CalumMew)
