SW:TOR Free-to-play
Link
Well this is no surprise.
However questions still remain; will this save SWTOR or just delay its death? Will you go back or now look into SWTOR because it is free?
Personally I am going to stay away from SWTOR as I felt that it was yet another generic hotkey mmo and I think that many people will eventually feel the same or that the simple overheads to run such a game will not be covered by micro transactions.
EDIT:
Well, so this is the reason why...
All I have to say is - called it here and here! So yes, I will revel in being right yet again and not a biased fan who will say that anything is good depending on whos label is stuck to the box

Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playIf only they had(Original post by Stilo)
Bioware should have just focused on KOTOR 3. Would've sold amazingly.
I'm just happy that this has failed miserably and that they should have never taken such a massive **** on their fans.
I think after WoW everyone is getting tired of hotkey grinding. Even people who only play WOW are realising that such mechanics are dated, thus why the hell did Bioware release a game in the same style?!(Original post by Inverse)
I think it will delay its death, I never liked the game anyway; I doubt it would attract too many people though; the prospect of grinding isn't appealing to me.

Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playI've got no clue, I am certainly not very keen on it!(Original post by Jimbo1234)

Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playPrecisely this, I was gutted when they decided to go down the MMO route. Even then, since they're going F2P I might give it a go but I will definitely not spend a penny. Hopefully TOR's 'failure' won't jeopardise a KOTOR 3 sometime in the future.(Original post by Stilo)

Agreed... Imagine kotor3 on (something similar to) the mass effect 3 engine. It would have been beautiful
.
I don't see how they can do it now though - they went into too much of the revan back (forward? After kotor2) story in TOR... what could they put in kotor3? -
Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playTo be honest the last KOTOR came out 8 years ago, it's probably been 5 years since I've last played it. I want to boot it up again but I no longer own an xbox. I was thinking about buying one here in the states, but I'll be coming to the UK soon, so acquiring an NTSC Xbox would be pointless. I think, when I come over, I'm going to buy an xbox and both of the KOTOR's and have that be my only form of video game media. But, I digress.(Original post by Bhumbauze)

I think they could go a bit further in time with the next KOTOR, if the first two took place ~1,000 years before the rise of the galactic empire they can make the next one take place maybe 400 years before it's rise. I remember reading an expanded universe book or two that touch on that time period; anyway, a lack of literature regarding that time period might even be ideal because then Bioware can entirely craft a new story that somehow is canon, as well. Anything is possible man, but I don't know that KOTOR 3 will ever come out anyway. If I had my way we'd see KOTOR 3 and a continuation of the Jedi Knight series sometime in the near future. -
Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playWell, to be fair, and I didn't realise this either until I saw it posted somewhere else, Bioware was acquired by EA in 2007. What this means is that the Bioware we have now is significantly different than the early-mid 2000's version that crafted KOTOR 2; the personnel aren't the same.(Original post by Aleandcynicism)
As others have said, I'm still annoyed at Bioware for making this instead of KOTOR 3. May give it a go if it's free at some point, but they'll have to prize my money from my cold dead hands or make KOTOR 3.
But yeah, I've been waiting for like 8 years for KOTOR 3. -
Re: SW:TOR Free-to-play
I still don't understand why they made TOR -- there was no market for it. The only reason why we all bought it was because one of the writers described it as "KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 all in 1 game", and we all believed him
. Hopefully EA sells the license to another company.
You can buy it on PC. Any PC will run it.(Original post by Stilo)

Bioware only lent a small hand in KOTOR 2's development. Obsidian was the company who made it.(Original post by Stilo)

Re: SW:TOR Free-to-playMy bad, I meant the first KOTOR. And I'm not big on pc gaming.(Original post by Nephilim)
