Marked by Teachers site....
How is this any different from the pre existing coursework site ... seems very familiar to me...... still seems to be stocked with the answers to many IB coursework tasks that people are supposed to do for themselves as opposed to paraphrasing what they can read on the net.....
Sites like this are undoubtedly amongst the factors that mean that all concepts of fairness are thrown out of the window and the IB can no longer use such assessments with confidence ..... hence the re-writes for IA's for 2014. -

Firstly there is very little dispute that looking at examples of work others have completed and using it to inform your own studies is anything other than highly beneficial (and is something that happens in good classrooms around the country).
The problem has always been, that without the input of teachers (and indeed others that have previously excelled in the subject area under review) it is very difficult for students learning a topic for the first time to really get an understanding of what works, what doesn't and most importantly, why. This is where Marked by Teachers steps in, with formatively marked examples, clearly showing the student what works, what doesn't and why.
In addition all of the teachers involved in the creation of the site have provided hints/tips/common mistakes and other useful tid-bits on their specialist subject http://www.markedbyteachers.com/as-a...-named-desire/
There are also reviews of the documents done by our team of student reviewers (all of whom have excelled in their specialist subject at the level they are reviewing) covering 3 key points:
- Response to the question
- Level of analysis
- Quality of writing
Again this is designed to aid a students understanding of the document.
All of this really does make it a substantially different resource to other pre-existing coursework sites - a truly social learning tool.
However Marked by Teachers really is just the start. The way the resource develops and is added too over time is really important, and something we would really like to get users of TSR to help us with.
What features would you like to see introduced?
How would you develop the resource over time?
This will help us ensure that Marked by Teachers continues to provide seriously useful learning tools to a wide student audience.
I hope this helps, and please feel free to ask any questions - we would love to hear your comments (and if you could take the time to answer the 2 questions above that would be awesome)

I do have one further question, will you guarantee that no existing and no future titles from IB Internal Assessments (or any other exam board official assessments) will have solutions posted on the site?
thanks. -
Re: Marked by Teachers site....Past paper solutions are available from all over the web, in fact having past papers and model solutions to compare to is one of the best bits revision material you can get (in my opinion, at least). I may be misunderstanding things here, but what exactly is wrong with having solutions like these available?(Original post by H.C. Chinaski)

yes you are misunderstanding. I don't believe that I mentioned past paper solutions anywhere in the thread. I asked about IB IA Solutions. -

Re: Marked by Teachers site....Hey Chinaski - really sorry its taken an age to get a response from me. Its a very good point you raise, and we certainly wouldn't want (nor be allowed) to publish any copyrighted material. However, when it comes to responses to assessment, it is highly beneficial to see how others have approached it and what style of response gets the grades - this is really the essence of what MBT does. I would assume (although I don't know for sure) a qualification of the calibre of the IB doesn't just regurgitate the same assessment titles year after year, therefore if a response to a particular assessment is submitted to and then published on MBT it wouldn't undermine that assessment.(Original post by H.C. I am not sure if this answers your question
if not please let me know and expand on what you mean and I'll do my best to answer.
I would be really interested in your answer to the questions - I have been involved with CWI and now MBT (in fact TSR as well) for nearly 10 years and user opinion and feedback is one of the strongest tools we have for ensuring our sites meet our audiences needs and add real educational value

Re: Marked by Teachers site....Thanks for taking the time to answer. The IB do indeed use the same IA's over a number of years and some of the ones that were still in use were indeed avaliable on coursework.info and having had but a brief scan, they are indeed on MBT. Unfortunately publishing IA's allows students to simply paraphrase what they have read/ downloaded from such sites and essentially cheat.(Original post by Mr T)

The IB are aware of sites posting solutions and as a result are attempting to change the nature of some IA's to try and eradicate this unfortunate practice. -
Re: Marked by Teachers site....That is quite shocking that the IB do in fact reuse old assessment titles year after year! I would have expected more rigorous assessment setting.(Original post by H.C. Chinaski)

Thank you for this information, we will definitely bear this in mind as we plan for the future of the site... -
Re: Marked by Teachers site....I am really sorry to hear this - it certainly shouldn't be the case that because you are in NZ you can't sign up.(Original post by mike6liu)
I can't sign up.Is that because of that I'm in New Zealand
Would you mind explaining where the error occurs and exactly what happens? That way I should be able to help get you up and running on the site
(also if you could include your browser and version that will also help us debug the issue) -
Re: Marked by Teachers site....Thanks for the feedback mike6liu - if you have any further queries or difficulties please give me a shout(Original post by mike6liu)
I was using 360 browser before but now I use Google and I can sign up.
