Queen's Campus: John Snow or Stephenson?
Hi. I've always wanted to go to Durham, and found out today, that the course I want to apply for is in Queen's Campus.
I've looked at the prospectus' today and saw that there is only John Snow and Stephenson College at this area.

If I apply (which I am doing), do I get a choice between the two?
    Can I apply for both?
Which is better from personal experience/what people have said?

I'm big into music/musicals/singing/dancing and gym/netball/badminton, so I'm looking for one more geared to that..

    Also, what's a *gowned formal* :/ ?

    Thanks x

When you apply, you do get to state a preference for college - I expect you'd have quite a high chance of getting the one you want, since I've never heard of either being oversubscribed.

You can't 'apply for both', but you can state 'No preference' on your UCAS application - since it's a Queen's Campus course, it should be a 50/50 chance of being given an offer by either.

And from what I've heard, since they're both pretty new, there are many more similarities than differences between the two.

Both colleges have netball and badminton teams, not sure about gyms. John Snow definitely has a musical theatre society, Stevo doesn't have much listed, but could.

To help decide, I really recommend checking out their respective JCR websites and just seeing which one you get a better vibe from.

A 'gowned formal' is a formal dinner (every sits down to eat at the same time, courses are served individually, usually associated with high alcohol consumption) where diners wear smart clothes (usually a suit for guys, smart dress for girls) and a formal gown.

    Thank-you very much for replying
As you can see by my questions, I don't really know much about this system where there are colleges, so.. I am going to study Pharmacy (which is new to Durham for 2013 entry), so is one of the colleges more suitable for scientists over arts students(well not *suitable*, but does one seem to have more science type students over the others?)? Or are they very much equal and don't mind your course?

Thanks for answering all my previous questions & I will take a look at that link now, much appreciated x

I assume they'll use the same system as the Durham City colleges, where each college has a quota for each subject, so you get equal proportions of each subject at each college.
