Travelling from Edinburgh to Dundee University
I am considering moving in with my boyfriend who lives in Edinburgh and travelling to Dundee for Uni. I am going to start my firs year studying Illustration. I have no idea if this would work so I was wondering if you know anyone who does travel that distance? Is it even doable? And do u maybe know of any bus passes between Edinburgh and Dundee? thanks

Definitely doable. I had a flatmate who took the train home to Edinburgh every weekend, I know it's not the same as commuting everyday but he would often wait until early Monday morning to come back (and he would start at 9) so there must be trains that run early enough to get here in time.

i think she more meant would it be viable to live in edinburgh but study in dundee.

up to you of course, but every day you wanted to come into uni, you'd face a 3 hour round commute. i got annoyed when it took me 10 minutes to walk to uni, so i'm not sure how good a 3 hour round commute would be. and that's just the commute.

There are plenty of trains/buses, but it would get pretty expensive and irritating to have to travel an hour and a half each way for say, 1 lecture?

Living together and commuting such a long way every day would only put a massive strain on your relationship as you'd always be tired as you'd have to be out of the flat for 7am to get to a 9am class and also you would probably find that you'd struggle to make your own friendship group at Dundee because you lived so far away meaning it would be difficult to socialise with other people.

If you both make your own separate worlds in Edinburgh and Dundee you'll find that your relationship is better because of it as you're both doing what you want to do whilst maintaining the relationship. If your relationship is going to last then you'll manage to travel between Dundee and Edinburgh at the weekend with no problems at all. When I was living in Edinburgh I started seeing someone who lived and worked in Aberdeen - we did that easily enough for a year whilst I was doing 4th year of uni and then I ended up moving to London so then we did London to Aberdeen for 18 months. Three years on we both now live in London but about 45 minutes apart due to our jobs and we'll move in together at some point next year when it makes sense to do so with flat contracts etc. Forcing yourself to live together when it isn't practical to do so will only harm your relationship - if you're destined to be together then you can live together in 4 years time and it'll be worth the wait. There's no point rushing things just for the sake of it as you've potentially got a life time ahead of you to live with your boyfriend.

It might be worth looking into a Unirider if you're looking to do this, I think it would save you a lot of money. You'd probably need to get up at the crack of dawn each day to get to Uni on time and will probably be back home quite late so while it's possible, I'm not sure it's something I would want to do personally.
