Is this a genuine or not?
I was on my laptop for about 2-3 hours when this came up, my laptop does have a habit of overheating. So it could be genuine but im not sure if this is a virus.

That looks like Windows' SMART monitor. You can download some other program to check the SMART values on your hard drive and verify that the drive is indeed failing, I think SpeedFan will allow you to perform the check-up.

Looks genuine to me, you can usually tell when they are a virus or malware as something will not look right. It could be that it is telling you it is failing when it isn't but I wouldn't take the chance, I would back up then continue to use it until.

Download and run CrystalDiskInfo, it will give you a health status. e.g Good

I'll have a search of the program you suggested, i clicked the little icon in the corner and this is what came up. If my hard drive is failing should i buy a replacement or just buy a new laptop?

That looks genuine, it's source it Microsoft Windows.

I thought the picture was my own desktop for a moment then, I was wondering why it wasn't working properly!

I've done two checks on it one with crystaldiskinfo as you suggested and another with Western digital.

SMART isn't 100% accurate, it could be a false positive. But all the same you should heed the warning just in case. Best thing would be to replace the hard drive in your laptop. The rest of the machine is presumably working fine and would not need replacing.

I've no idea how Windows Backup works, or even if it actually does. I'd stick with copying files, personally.
