    I want to exercise...
...but there's two problems with this.

    1. I hate exercising. A lot.

    2. I've had massive medical problems this year, and I do struggle to breath very well atm. So I get tired a lot more easily than I would have six months ago, and I've been told only light exercising anyway.

I used to walk back from school everyday (2.5 miles with lots of hills), had a paper round, and then had P.E lessons as well. Now I'm doing none of that, and I don't know what to do instead. I thought about jogging, but the idea of it makes me cringe as I'd feel massively self conscious. Same with gym, plus with the problems of it being pretty expensive.

I don't actually want to lose weight or whatever, I just want to maintain my body as it is, as I'm worried I'll start gaining weight if I don't do anything! If anyone's got any suggestions as to what I can do, I'd be grateful

    1) You can't hate ALL exercise. You just dislike the types you've tried. What about dance classes? Cycling? Swimming? Spinning? Rowing? There are LOTS of different types of exercise, and it's impossible to hate them all.

    2) I have an issue with my lungs which has meant that I struggle getting fitter, but I started by walking and now I can run a bit as well.

I also had an issue when I stopped school and my paper round, but you just have to find something you enjoy and stick to it. I don't think many people "like" the idea of getting up at 6am and going to the gym for example, but they enjoy it once they're there, and it's just something we have to do.

Just go for walks or cycle rides are nice as well (you feel you're going faster/further/not as jarring on the knees). Once you start doing it you get the old endorphins going and then it self-sustains.

First of all if you have health issues I would suggest you consult your GP and he might be able to suggest a form of exercise that would be ideal for you. Don't go out jogging if you have seriously medical problems, it might just exacerbate it. But you can always try walking, it's easy going and actually very good at maintaining body weight.

Have you tried swimming? I know you said your self conscious, but once your actually in the pool it isnt that bad... plus, its usually cheaper than going gym too. I personally prefer swimming to all other forms of exercise lol

OMG. I just had a look on your weight loss blog! :0
If you dont mind me asking, what is your current BMI?
Its just I'm on a diet, lost 14lb since june! but I cant decide on a target weight... I've been on BMI calculators ect and stuff but the apparent ideal weight for my height varies sooo much! And I don't really like my body anyway, so I kinda need a target to keep myself from going too overboard. I'm 5ft7 and currently 158lb... and what exercises do you do?
ps. man, you look amazing having lost all that weight!

Don't punish yourself by taking exercise that you don't enjoy as some form of medicine. Look harder to find something fun for you whether it is Salsa dancing, football, hockey, badminton, cycling or whatever.

If you are unfit then start with what you can manage and build slowly from there. That is essentially how people rehabilitate themselves after injury or illness. If you have been told to stick to light exercise then just work up from there when you are ready. I am assuming that you are still in contact with the doctor/hospital or whoever has been treating you so you can go by their advice as to what you are fit to do.

Current BMI is 23. I'd like to get it down to 22 if I can, but life's kinda getting in the way at the moment! I'm the same weight as you but I'm 5'10". Well done on losing a stone that's brilliant! I do lots of walking, jogging, cycling, I have a rowing machine and weights at home. It's all good fun once you get into it .

Go for walks, even if its just 10 mins to the shops, or stick your Ipod in and walk to random places?? It's suprising how many calories walking can burn and its free
