    Question for Fiesta Mk6 drivers
So basically I drive my mums Fiesta ('07) and It really confuses me when I put the headlights on. I turn the light switch to sidelights and the sidelight symbol illuminates on the instrument panel, then I switch on the headlights (Dipped beam) and no more lights illuminate. When I turn on the main beam the blue main beam symbol then illuminates.

So my question is should there be a symbol illuminating to show that the dipped beam is on? I have seen it in many other cars where they have a green symbol with lines angled downwards but it makes no sense why there isn't one in the Fiesta. Could it be broken?

Don't tell me to read the manual, it is probably lost in the depths of my house

I've had this car as a courtesy car. It only has a light for main beam, no dipped beam. My own car is the same, you just have to make sure you check whether the switch is on just sidelights or dipped beam. I don't really use sidelights and just have dipped beam on if I need lights on, it's easier that way :P

By law, cars only have to have an indication that the main beam, indicators or front/rear foglights are on. The dipped beam indicator is optional, so there are a few cars that don't have it.

It's a little confusing not having one but the sidelights are always going to be on with the headlights so I could always just check for that and if it is on then check the light switch so see it it is just the sidelights or the headlights too.

I've never really understood why some car manufacturers do it this way, I'd find a dipped beam indicator a lot more useful than a sidelights one - you can tell if the sidelights are on because the dashboard and buttons will light up, so a light for dipped beam makes it a lot easier to tell whether you have sidelights or dipped beam on as well.

Remember, legally you have to have your sidelights on after dusk, and you shouldn't be blinding others with your main beams. Main beam indicator is required by law, and if cars are going to be adding just one more indicator - then the sidelight one makes the most sense to have as you might not be aware you don't have your lights on at all in a brightly lit town centre for instance - where you need sidelights but wouldn't get in trouble for not having dipped beams - where if you need the dipped beam you will easily notice they are not on.

My Punto has the same two lights as yours
