    Canon 55-250 IS II
Hi all. I'm looking at getting the above lens for my 550d. Only have the kit lens at present, and a bit more zoom would be good at times.

    Any recommendations?

Do you want us to review this lens or suggest alternatives?

Does anyone on here own this lens, and can recommend it? Alternatively, any other options I should be looking at?

I can get it off Amazon for 115, which I beleive is a good deal.

If I were looking at the budget end of the spectrum, I'd get nothing else. It's meant to be a scorcher of a lens for the money. I know a few people who've kept them right up until they moved up to L glass. Definitely go for it.

I brought it as my second lens, my first being the standard 18-55mm kit and quite frankly, it hasn't left my camera. It is an awesome lens!

Excellent lens; I have co-ownership of a 70-300 IS, but generally use this one instead. If you were looking to do serious wildlife or sports photography, you'd want longer and/or faster. However, for dabbling around in it, a fantastic lens that is worth far more than the money you'll pay for it.

Yeah I have the lens too, same body also! Makes a huge difference on the kit lens. Only problem is now I have my sights set on one of the longer (bank breaking) lenses...

Thanks for all the +ve info. Also ordered the bg-e8 battery grip and now looking at intervalometers - damn you amazon..! :-)

Just need a tripod upgrade then I'll be set for summer! I've been browsing timelapses on YouTube so am going to give some a try.

Well I have finally got round to using the lens and am very happy with it.

Had a great day at the Rhyl air day a week or so ago and took the 550d with us. I'll stick some pics up shortly
