Dreading final year.
I am absolutely dreading my final year of university. Firstly I have no idea what I'm doing for my dissertation. My uni is useless. Most people I know from other universities have already done their proposals and in mine I don't even have a clue in the slightest what I'm doing, we start planning for it in September having finished second year in April so we could have done so much planning in that time! We haven't even been given any guidance.. I know the general thing of a dissertation but not enough to be able to start planning myself!
Also, second year was so difficult. I really struggled with work and got 2.2s and 2.1s and one 1st, but I feel like I should have been able to do much better. I missed exams because of illness as well so I'm re-doing them.
The thought of going back for third year scares me. I want to go back because I'm excited for moving into the new house and being back at uni with my friends, and getting it over and done with tbh. But jut absolutely dreading the work and wondering how I'm gonna cope with it. -
Re: Dreading final year.
It sounds to me you are already determined to do it, by heading back to do your final year, so you do have it in you.
It might not be as bad as you think it will be, because its your final year you might get more guidance and support than your 2nd year. At least you tried your best with your work in your 2nd year even with your illness so I believe you do have what it takes, and just believe in your self. As soon as you feel like your not coping or falling behind ask for support before it becomes harder. Best of luck

Re: Dreading final year.
Try not to let it daunt you, you are in the same position as many people in your year and you have done very well so far, considering you had sickness to deal with as well! Try to talk to your tutors about ideas you have and they should help you develop those into a possible dissertation topic. Use their expertise to help you - you'll get the best support if you do a topic your tutors are knowledgeable about. Good luck

Re: Dreading final year.Thanks. I know who my dissertation tutor is and they have been in contact and told us to think about what we want to do. I have an idea but don't know if I'm along the right lines or anything, I just hope they give us a bit more guidance once we are back at uni. Uni is useless over the summer! People I know on my course seem so confident about it and I'm really daunted and overwhelmed. I'm trying to do some research as well but it's difficult because I'm not on a university computer I can't access research journals easily so I'll have to wait until September to do that.(Original post by SpicyStrawberry)

Re: Dreading final year.Yeah, knowing that I'll get a degree at the end of it and wanting to get a good one keeps me going. I really hope we have more support. In second year we had lectures but only 2 hours a week tutor time which was for Research Methods, and about once every two months with out personal tutors. I coped with second year but look back thinking how did I cope with it, having an assignment due in every two weeks it was just so constant. And having to work 10x harder than that in third year.(Original post by IIGemma)
