you get 14% discount on all macs! with my macbook which i bought about a month ago, it came with an extended 3 year hard ware warranty, so to upgrade it to full apple car (software, hardware, phone support) it was about £45

I'm in uni, but i'm fairly sure (don't quote me on it though) that the discount is the same as uni student discount. it came to £910 for a mbp with apple care

Well obviously you're not eligible for a student discount until you're a student??

hmm as far as i knew the discount was only for uni students... But maybe college too? There is a drop down menu on the apple site so just see if your college is there

my trick wth apple is that i buy their computers- laptops refurbished as they are top quality and sometimes up to 25% cheaper than buying the comp brand new!

you can ring up and say you're at uni, they never asked for any proof.

or buy direct off here http://store.apple.com/uk_edu_5000832

Don't buy a Mac! They're not worth it unless you're doing a graphics or video or music related subject

As the guy above posted, buy off one of those links. It tricks the system into thinking that youre on a campus so you get the university discount. I did this myself about 2 weeks ago, no questions asked

If you buy online using the university links you get 3 year hardware support. Online only however.

Do you have any friends/relatives at uni? When I was at college I got my brother to buy me a mac on his uni campus then paid him the money back...just a thought. I never bothered with apple care or anything as it confused me too. I guess theres the usual warranties but i've had my macbook for a few years and its still going strong

so if it breaksdown i take it to the apple shop and they fix it?

do they ask to see your uni id when you take it back?

they don't ask for ID when you go in, as long as it's within warranty.

and the whole university automatic warranty thing, combined with EU consumer law which gives people an automatic warranty means you don't really need applecare. but i've heard people having problems with it. As a student applecare is only an extra £45 or something, a tiny amount compared to the amount of the laptop so its arguably worth getting anyway
