I ate a fish called "Baby Shark"- Is it really shark?
I went shopping with my mum to a local supermarket where they have frozen ocean fish and seafood. Since my family eat alot of fish we bought frozen "baby shark". it was just pieces of steak already cut. The skin was tough but we didn't eat the skin, the fish is meaty in texture and quite delicious. Im just very curious to know if we really ate shark? could it just be the name of a fish or is it really shark?
because ive tried googling to find more info but I can find nothing on eating baby shark meat.

Re: I ate a fish called "Baby Shark"- Is it really shark?
I highly doubt that what you were eating was actually legitimately a shark species fish. What's more likely is that the fish appears somewhat shark-like in appearance and small, so is colloquially referred to as 'baby shark' despite having no distinct species link to actual shark.
That is however, pure speculation. -

you can buy certain types of shark in the UK and i have heard of far eastern countries eating baby tiger sharks so presumably baby shark literally means a baby shark.

I bought it from a Indian shop as they have alot of ocean fish SirRamAlot. Ive also been to a local chinese shop but this is the first time ive seen "baby shark". It tastes just like fish but to be honest I felt weird eating shark lol and felt weird to gulp down the leftovers.
jumpingjesusholycow, what you said is exactly what my mum thinks. That it might just the name of the fish rather then being an actual shark. I mean who knows, Ive come across ocean fish with some very weird names.
Darth Stewie, it just may well be a shark. I never thought they would sell it in the uk because I only see these exotic looking sea fish in ethnic markets. It would be interesting to see this in something like sainsburys. If it really is shark I can tell people ive actually eaten a shark.Last edited by DreamKitty; 09-08-2012 at 12:51. -

That is what my mum thinks as well and now im beginning to believe it. I mean it looked like fish and it tasted like fish. It has the meaty texture of a eel or mackeral, the flesh is tightly packed and doesn't fall apart when cooking. This gives me a flashback to when I bought a vegetable called "Snake bean" and of course it wasn't really a snake lol

Re: I ate a fish called "Baby Shark"- Is it really shark? In India, baby shark is commonly sold in markets and yes, it is shark babies. So chances are yes, you probably ate baby shark.(Original post by DreamKitty)
