So I finally gave Arrested Development a go.
Prompted by the enormous amount of hype behind it and endless recommendations, I watched the first episode of the show a year or two back and I didn't really 'get it'. The humour seemed entirely superficial and something only Americans would find funny. I didn't watch the second episode.
As of 2 days ago, I was tempted to give it another go, made it past the first episode and I think I love the show now.
I'm on episode 18 (after two days of viewing) and it's hilarious. There are certain things about the show that just click like the characters with their own idiosyncrasies, the narrator, the flashbacks, the little background jokes/clues and the running gags, which in other shows are restricted to one episode and then forgotten about in the next episode.
The 'incest' situations with George Michael are hilarious.

Re: So I finally gave Arrested Development a go.It's a healthy mix of awkward tones and content. And since getting back into it, I've found it to be anything but superficial. The episodes are littered with intelligent multi-layered jokes that carry over through multiple episodes and develop over time. It's one of the the shows that matures as you watch it so it may take a couple of episodes to really click.(Original post by JCC-MGS)
I had the first reaction and never the second, it always seemed like a very superficial and obvious alt comedy to me built more on an awkward tone than on content. I've watched a few episodes but never got past like episode 5. -

I had the exact reaction, I watched the first episode thought it was alright but didn't find it too funny or see where the hype came from. So I've still only watched 1 episode of it ever, but if you're saying you gave it another go and enjoyed it, maybe I should...

Re: So I finally gave Arrested Development a go.
I remember putting off watching it for a while as i watched like 5 minutes and got bored. So glad i didn't forget about it. Best comedy ever imo. What makes it so brilliant is that you miss a lot on one viewing, in you find a lot even by viewing it a 2nd, 3rd, 4th time! Absolutely fantastic show, it's sad that it's not as big as it should be though i'm hopeful the movie might start giving it the audience it deserves!

Re: So I finally gave Arrested Development a go.I think i got up to episode 5 too. I just don't get it. It's similar to 30 Rock. That show gets hardly any viewers and they keep making it.(Original post by JCC-MGS)

I'm watching a bit of Parks and Recreation atm. -
Re: So I finally gave Arrested Development a go.May I ask, where did you watch it? Did you buy a box set or download/stream from somewhere?(Original post by Ape Gone Insane)
