Re: Apply to courses of different areas in different unis at the same time
You'll either have to make your PS about just one subject, which might damage your chances of getting in the other course, or make your PS really broad and vague by not mentioning any subject, which could damage your chances of getting in both courses. It can be done, your PS just won't be as good as someone who's focusing on just one subject.

Re: Apply to courses of different areas in different unis at the same timeFor completely different courses like law and finance it really can't be done, but otherwise yes(Original post by Zebrajess)

OP - You'll have to decide at some point if it's law or finance you want to study. Better to do that before you apply so you can focus your application properly. -
Re: Apply to courses of different areas in different unis at the same time
There is nothing to literally stop you, but I'd imagine it would be pretty difficult to write a PS that suited those two very different courses. Why are you applying to two such different courses? If it is because you really want to do law, but know it's competitive so want back-up choices of another course, it might be better to just have less-prestigious law schools as a back-up. If it's because you're not sure whether you want to do law or finance, you should probably try to work that out.

Re: Apply to courses of different areas in different unis at the same time
You can apply for both courses, but as you already know you only write ONE personal statement.
As opposed to what's been said above it IS perfectly possible to write a statement tailored to both courses as they are fairly similar in terms of skills and qualities.
You can discuss in your statement your organisation skills, your previous experience and the sort of professional environment you are suited to. What you need to do is to sit down and draw up a list of reasons you're interested in both subjects and then find the ones that match - like I said, organisation may be on of these. Also talk about the subjects you enjoy and your skills in those. I'm not applying for either of the above courses so I can't help specifically but it CAN be done.
You just need to find something that links the two together.
Good luck. -
Re: Apply to courses of different areas in different unis at the same timeYou're not applying for a job though, you're applying to spend three years on the academic study of these subjects. Mentioning relevant skills is a very small part of the personal statement. You need to focus at least two thirds of the statement on your interest in the subject you're applying for, and you can't do that properly that if you're applying to two subjects with little or no overlapping content.(Original post by StudentatBCS)
