They wont if you do it that way, it just becomes a usb dongle.

Only if you make it a wireless hotspot do you need security.

And if you did make it a hotspot, you would have to allow specific devices to connect to your phone, so people won't start stealing your connection. :p:

I think sometimes you need to download software (or more specifically, drivers) to use your phone for tethering. Setting up a hotspot is easier as you don't need to install anything.

But why can't you just download games from your phone?

because using my airtime credit to access internet is toooooooooo expensive, and there is no wifi where I live

If you use the internet from your phone on your pc, it's just as expensive as using it on your phone.

Can you clarify whether you want to

    a) Use your phones internet on the PC - Tethering

    b) Use your PC's internet on the Phone -

For a) you can use the wifi hotspot feature or tethering. for b) you might need an app for that or newer android versions have an option for it when you connect the USB lead.

Of you're sharing internet either way through the USB connection then it's secure. No one else can use it unless they unplug the USB cable and plug it into their computer. If you're using the wifi hotspot option make sure you put a password on it and use WPA/WPA2 (not WEP)

My phone has this option and calls it "Internet Pass Through", I've not actually tried it before and I'm not sure which version of Android brought it in.
