I currently live in Scotland, and I'm entering my final year. I'm pretty set on studying medicine. I'd always assumed I would study in Scotland, but recently I've been feeling more and more like I'd rather study abroad somewhere. I'm told that the best medical schools are the Northern European ones ie Germany, Netherlands, Scandinavia etc, although I'm not entirely sure if that has any basis in fact.

Anyway, how exactly would I go about applying to a foreign university? Is there some kind of EU-organised thing? If not, what would I do? I have attempted to find out using google, but I've not had much luck.

As for the language barrier, I'm fairly young for my year so could easily take a year out to learn whatever language is required. I speak German anyway.

So how would I (a Scottish student) apply to a university in, say, Germany?

I'm not terribly bothered about getting into debt as a student tbh. I know I sound like a total nob and will probably get thumbed down but my family is reasonably well-off, and from what I've heard doctors have a steady, if not astronomically high income. Debt isn't really the foremost of my worries.

Willingness to take on debt =/= willingness of banks to lend that money

Although assuming your parents will pay for it, go nuts.

Well if money isn't an issue then by all means. At the very least you can increase the number of uni's that you apply to and in turn increase your chances of getting a place.

Oh, I hadn't realised you could apply to foreign unis on top of 'native' ones. I suppose that can only be good.

There are a few 'studying medicine in Europe' threads dotted about here, use the search function. I briefly worked for a language school in Berlin that specialised in getting internationals set up in terms of language level and uni admissions but I don't know about the individual application process specifically. I think there is a website for medical school admissions in Germany though... just a vague hunch, no idea where it's coming from. I'll do a little researching and get back to you in a minute if I find anything useful.

By the way, I'm going to be applying to study Medicine in Denmark, hopefully next year. Danish is very hard and the entry requirements are by no means lower than the UK. In Sweden and Denmark at least however there are no tuition fees whatsoever. Woop! Tuition fees in Germany should be 0-500 euros per semester as well. Your only concern should really be living costs.
