    what exactly is a dissertation?
Ive heard people say its worth a third of your grade, so would that mean its worth 2 modules? Ive just finished my first year (6 modules) and was wondering what to expect in the next two years. Also how many modules do you do in the second and third years? I thought it was 6 each year but i have seen 8 listed for the second and third years in my course handbook, does this mean i pick and choose some modules?

MAHOOOOOOOSIVE REPORT basically. It is usually a big chunk of marks, usually do it on your last year of your course.

On gigantic essay ... On my course it's 40 credits, taken in third year. You take 120 credits in each year.

A project of about 10,000 words (varies from uni to uni, subject to subject) involving a specific focus on an area of your choice. Generally requires some form of investigation and analysis on your part based on a strong theoretical framework (i.e. literature review). Possibly the worst thing you'll do during your time at university. Choose your topic wisely. Enjoy!

Oh I can't wait lol. A 3,000 research project at Access was bad enough!
