For the university im looking to apply to i have the right a level grades but it also requires a B grade in english language in all their courses(i have a C). Would they hold that against me if i apply there.

the top ones? well... "hold it against you" probably not, but it may put you at a disadvantage esp if you're applying for a competitive course at a competitive uni... say there are 2 candidates, you and another person, with exactly the same qualifications & equally as good personal statements, but they have a B and you have a C in English Language.... They'll probably chose them over you, I'm afraid. But it would be worth it to email/call up to ask and make sure.

If you're applying for 2013 or later entry, I'd consider retaking English language or doing a similar course elsewhere, just to make sure.
