    Hi

It depends what drug, your going to be put on. As steroids is quite a wide family of drugs.. they all have some shared side affects, but not all If you're willing to reveal what drug, then someone might be able to help

It really depends on which drug (50mg of one =/= 50mg of another), how long you're going to be on steroids, how long you're going to be on that dose and whether that's going to change.

As you know, there are several side-effects associated with steroids if taken for a long period of time at a high dose, which can be rather unpleasant. However, there are several things that can be done to counter these effects, and this may depend on the reason you're taking them and other medical issues/medication you may be taking.

I realise I've given quite a broad answer here, but I hope it helps. Any specific questions and concerns are best raised with your medical practitioner.

Sorry it's prednisolone 50mg per day, hopefully tapering down after 2 weeks if it's effective.

I'm taking it for abdominal pain and diarrhoea of unknown origin, but probably autoimmune.

I had a steroid shot a couple of weeks ago and it made me feel dizzy and sick (kenalog 80mg) so I'm a bit worried about side effects.

Also I work in healthcare and I'm concerned I'm going to pick up any bug going.

Don't worry, I've had to take oral hydrocortisone all my life. But then again, I suppose I'm just used to it. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I see, well if that's why you're being treated its likely that you will not be kept on steroids long term unless you have a flare up; there are other medications that can be used once you're well, again something to discuss with your doctor.

It's unlikely the tablets will make you feel sick, that previous experience may be related to anxiety about the drug and receiving an injection.

Remember the medication you're going to take will likely improve your symptoms, which are very likely worse than any side effects (which don't necessarily happen), so the benefits should outweigh any problems.

Hope all goes well for you.

The only side effect I've ever had from steroids (both short term high dose ones like that and long term lower dose ones) is an increased appetite. A bit frustrating but not too bad really!
