I had a few lumps behind my ear when I was younger, but they were just really large spots. VERY satisfying to pop, they're usually really loaded with pus

Before anyone says anything- I am planning to go to the doctors on Thursday if this hasn't gone down.
Basically, I noticed last night that I have a hard, fixed lump at the base of my ear, just above my jaw. It kind of feels like a small marble.
I daren't read up a lot about it on the internet because I don't want to scare myself! However, from what I have seen, this sort of thing is usually due to infection. Of course, the hypochondriac side of me is equating this lump with cancer.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever had a similar sort of thing before? What did it turn out to be?
See a GP if you want, but daily face washing including behind your ears (no matter how cliche that sounds) with soap will stop them popping up. Or you can cultivate them and enjoy those spot-popping sensations
....maybe I've got a bit carried away.....
