Timetable question

Hi,

I have just checked my timetable and I saw that in week 0 (1st - 5ft Oct) I have seminars planned already and I was wondering what about the freshers week and since we are supposed to come to our accommodation on 7th Oct then how does this work? I'm a bit confused here :s-smilie:

Thank you!

Not really sure, but if you are an international student you have to go to York one week earlier, it's an international pre-freshers' week
Check your accommodation contract, I reckon it should start form Sep 29th ... well at least mine does.
But I don't know if it's 'cause I'm an international student or a postgrad.

Well, my accommodation contract starts from 3rd Oct but I'm an international student. So international students have like two weeks of induction? Is the fresher week just a laid back period of time for students to socialise, get used to the new surroundings ect without any academic stuff yet? I may be wrong about this

Yep

If your accomodation contract starts from Oct 3rd, but your personal induction table (on eVision) says that you have some activity planned before that date, you might want to give the uni a call and sort it out.

No, no, it's correct  I just checked it and for undergrad international students it's from 3rd Oct and for postgrad international it's from 29/30th Sept, so everything is ok. Thank you

Though, in the timetable in the induction section everything seems correct with datas but then in the month view I have already some seminars planned from week starting from 7th Oct, which is supposed to be the freshers week, right? I will call the uni.

I'm an international student too and yeah on the international support page it says orientation starts from 4th so you have to arrive on or before 3rd Oct. There's a problem on my timetable as well I found there are overlapping lectures on monday

Exactly! That's why I got so worried! I will call the uni tomorrow, nobody is picking up now. Maybe there are some technical errors?

Just a heads up - your timetable might not be finalised for weeks yet, it's not uncommon to have many changes to it before it's actually settled. Especially true for freshers I think. You're probably best leaving it a few more weeks and if you still have problems mid-September then give them a call or email to ask.

Also, for some subjects you might actually start lectures in your first week. As far as I'm aware, we didn't have a separate freshers week because I know I had lectures from the Wednesday in my first week.
