catered vs self catered: which is more sociable?

Also, does anyone have any information about albion hall: is it sociable, and how far is it from the main campus?

Thanks.

I don't know much about Albion, other than that it is really quite a walk to campus, and is pretty much secluded from everything that goes on at the Uni.

I currently stay in Raleigh Park, which is on the other side of campus, and is still a bit of a walk, but I feel is definitely more sociable and included than Albion would be.

So go with Albion if you'd like, but if you're looking for some other self-catered options, Raleigh Park is definitely worth looking into!

Thanks for that! How much would you say, on average, you spend per week on food and outings?

I usually spend about £20 a week on food, and about another £20 on nights out. But if I'm being conservative, I could spend as little as £10 on food, and nothing on a night out (avoiding drinks at the club).

Catered halls are definitely more sociable, there are ticket reps always keeping you up-to-date with nights out, etc. You can meet more people at dinner (300+), compared with just the six or so people in your flat.

Are in you catered or self-catered halls?

Albion is quite a walk into university and that is assuming you are not located the other side of uni park.

I was in Broadgate. I'd probably say catered halls are more social. I socialised with my block of 30 people, my JCR friends and a couple of people from other blocks. Never met about 95% of people there it was just too big!

Part of me wishes I was somewhere like Nightingale/Sherwood etc where there might have been a bit more of a community feel something that was a bit lacking in a 2000+ people "monster" hall.

That said self-catered is cheaper and possibly a bit better for your waist line - If I was paying for all those carbs I'd feel obliged to eat them!

Are all the halls on campus catered, or are there some that are self-catered?
