Barts and The London medicine applicants 2013

Thought so, just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed an opportunity for if I miss my Firm.

One thing I was confused about was how long the CRB/health quest. takes to clear, surely if I end up having to go to Barts I will only have a month between, +/- the time it takes to get the form and send it back, don't I need it upon starting?

Deadline for Health Questionnaire was Tuesday 30 July 2013 and the deadline for the CRB was Friday 2 August 2013 according to the pre-enrolment emails, so I think you'll have to drop them an email. Although they are running CRB ID sessions on the:

Monday 2 September Friday 6 September 2013

Monday 9 September Friday 13 September 2013

So it seems like you can still do your CRB stuff up until the course starts, even then you can probably provisionally enrol while they sort out your CRB (assuming you're not a killer).
So don't worry. If you do, email them, but with results day so soon, a reply will take a while.

Edit: Are you Insurance?

Wtf???! I was meant to sort this out even if I was insurance??

The e-mails said only if firm choice, I haven't received anything from them regarding health questionnaire or CRB in the email or the post this is what they sent me in the emails:

1) Academic Qualifications

Please refer to the offer made to you via UCAS for the specific academic conditions.

Please note: If you have already completed your studies, no academic requirements will be listed on UCAS, but you will be required to provide evidence of these qualifications, eg A Level/GCSE or degree certificates at a later date, which we will inform you of.

2) Health Assessment

Satisfactory assessment of a completed Health questionnaire form (should you accept this offer as your first choice, you will receive further information regarding the health questionnaire by email).

3) Criminal Records Check

Satisfactory criminal records clearance certificated by the Criminal Records Bureau/Disclosure & Barring Service (should you accept this offer as your first choice, further information will be sent to you by email at later date).

We are very pleased that you have decided to accept our offer of a place at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry as your INSURANCE choice for entry in September 2013. For fee purposes you will be regarded as a Home student.

As you have chosen us as your Insurance choice, you will not be sent any further information unless you become Firm with this university and are expected to enrol in September, at which time we will send you further details.

Apologises. Didn't read the first line and skipped straight to the CRB stuff. No, you don't have to worry. They'll sort it after results day. Good luck!

Whew, alright thanks buddy
when filling in any CRB check application, please be aware of the new filtering off rules which may be that some old minor convictions/cautions/reprimands may not need disclosing and will not come up on your check. These rules were changed in May 2013 but are very complicated and the government is already reviewing them because of confusion.
please be aware that the police have a discretion on enhanced checks to disclose anything on you of which they are aware even if their no conviction or caution.

It is possible to appeal against these but best not to give hostages to fortune when your future is at stake

Okay so do a lot of students go through this route? Also, do I have to finish the three years or can I apply after 2 years? And finally would I have to do the UKCAT?

Yes they do. Yes you can. You would have to do the uKCAT to apply to Bart. Seriously, do your research. Make use of the wiki on here and google.

Guys I'm thinking about taking four A2s next year so I can apply to Barts. I could have four A* predictions, so I think my UCAS points will be enough (hopefully), but i'm kinda scared about the offer they could make? I wouldn't mind an AAAC offer but could they also ask for AAAB or AAAA? Thanks.

Also, my predicted grades might be A*A*A*A* and my ukcat is 797.5. I haven't researched barts enough and I only know the four A2s thing, do you think my stats are enough for Barts, given the high tariff cut off? Thanks

Stats-wise fine, but do research on other things other than admissions process before applying to see if you like the actual course too

Technically they can potentially make it the same as your predictions, seeing as that is what your tutors are saying they expect you to get... but from experience it will be the standard offer stated on their website

Yup, towards the end of the course the school organises talks on applying for grad med. You'd need to finish 3 years (or do the 4yr MEng if you fancied it). You'd need to do the UKCAT, but not til just before your final year.

Are you a Barts student? If so, could you please tell me about the extent to which they use PBL? I've heard it's minimal, and most of the course is traditional. I think that appeals to me, having a lecture led course with some variety.

Also, I haven't heard good things about the location. I love East London but apparently it's not great to live there? Also heard bad things about Queen Mary, but Barts seems to be separate in terms of location and quality?

Does anybody know what the flat/corridor layouts are at Dawson Hall? Like how many people per flat/corridor and how the numbering system works etc?

Right so there tends to be like 2 corridors, one on the side of the square out the front (the nicer part - numbers let's say 401-416) and then there is what was known as prison block which is from 417 onwards and this is out the back, but still really really nice. It is probably about 16 people per corridor and they share 2 kitchens, one larger, one smaller. If you are in numbers 401-413 say you will have a room facing out onto the square which is awesome.

That's about all I can say about that I think. Anything else you wanted to know? Dawson is awesome

Ah nice thank you very much for the reply! How easy is it to socialise with people in different flats/corridors to your own and is there like a main communal area for everyone?

And also, does that mean the numbers begin at like 400ish?

No no they start at 101 but I was just using 400s because that's the floor I was on

That's cool  so how easy is it to socialise with people in other corridors to your own or do people not really do that?
