Well officially our building is the engineering front building (The shiny new one with a cafe on the ground floor) but truth be told you have lectures everywhere. It's the same for all courses and a result of having so much going on at any one time I guess. They are never that far away though as the campus is pretty compact.

Could you tell which book/books you used for the programming 1/2 module (java)?

I'm familiar with web programming and now I decided to look into java, to get a bit of a head start.

Sorry for my slow reply I've been busy for the past few days!

The course text is (or was as it was 2 years ago now) Absolute Java.

There are loads of books on the topic though and as long as you find a basic one it will likely help

Could you please tell us how the degrees are classified? Do all the modules count towards the overall degree classification or are for example first year modules excluded?

Assuming you just take the bachelors and not the masters they are weighted;

1st year: 11%
2nd year 33%
3rd year 55%

Don't ask me where the last 1% is, its a mystery. You take 4 units a year, usually a module is half a unit and they are all equally weighted except your dissertation which counts for a whole unit and thus counts twice the amount of a normal module (3rd year)

Got an offer. In spite of being told that programming is taught from scratch I'm still a bit worried if I would be able to handle programming related modules. Can someone explain what the very first programming modules looked like and also whether they were that complex for programming beginners (I do not have any programming/computer science experience), because I'm pretty scared of my lack of knowledge in this field :frown:

To any UCL students, do you know of any students at all who have been let in with say ABB?
The panic has officially kicked in.

Could any of graduates tell, please, if the course gives sound foundation for pursuing education in regular Master in Management after finishing BSc?

I think the programming component in this course is minimal and will likely not be in depth, just some basic programming. I also have no experience in tech/computer software engineering and all that so kind of worried too.

Also, I'm assuming that there are some programming tasks that we have to do on our own at home. That's why I was thinking if buying a MacBook will be a good idea or after all I will regret doing so because of its incompatibility with some necessary apps that we will have to use.

I read on a website that last year 80% of students achieved a 2:1 or a first. Can any current students or students who have graduated provide insight on the relative difficulty of this course (especially the programming elements) and whether it is difficult to obtain high marks?

Afraid not

More than solid foundation, you'd probably be better off specialising in a certain area of management though.

The programming is taught from scratch and if you are the sort of person who can get the grades to get in then it won't be a problem to you. I had nothing more than a GCSE in IT and although I wouldn't say I loved the programming modules I got 1st's on both so its completely possible.

Afraid that's not true, its not the hardest course at UCL but not the easiest either. If you're comparing its academic rigour to Law or medicine then yeah but that goes for most courses. In my class I'd say 15% got 1sts. 55% got 2.1's and the rest got 2.2's or lower.

Hi all,

Could someone tell me what should I do?

My personal statement is mainly about Management ( Business), but I would love to apply to UCL for the IMB course.

Do you think my personal statement solely on management would be good enough?

What should I do?
